Rumor has it that Chicago State is courting Coach Dildy to be their new head coach. Anyone else hear this?

Know nothing about a rumor but it would be a logical choice for both. Step into the head chair.... Experience as a head coach.. Still local.. Chance to create a name for himself with some success at a program far worse off than UIC... A local guy for CS with some contacts to get players suited for their mission, environment and academics. Would make total sense and be good for both. Would also free the spot and "logical successor" title here when JC steps down. I think it's quite obvious that no one other than JC is going to decide his fate and longevity here. But I also think his influence ends there. I think UIC is bound by some unwritten code or agreement on terms of keeping JC, but that's it. Once his fate is certain we will be able to move about independently for a successor. He may make suggestions but we will not be bound by them............................ Just thoughts as I analyze season tix offers from other schools I follow. No mail, e-mail, phone message. text, etc from a school supposedly wanting to grow atttendance and fan base. But I guess I'm not a marketing wizzard like the ones on hire for UIC. Surely they know better....................that's why they are where they are.................

Haven't heard the rumor either, but hope it is true.
The worst thing that could happen to the UIC program is to continue on the same path after Collins finally decides to get out. If Dildy were to be the next coach, that would be the case.
After Collins leaves, we need to blow it up and start all over again--this time with a well thought-out plan. Hopefully that plan does not put a priority on recruiting high risk inner city "student" athletes.
Here's hoping you get your first Head Coaching position, Tracy Dildy--anywhere except at UIC.

Not sure how credible it is, but someone on the chicagohoops message board says that Dildy got the CSU job. If so, congrats to Coach Dildy. I'm sure if we schedule them this year at the Pavilion, they'll beat us by 30.
If he proves himself, maybe he ultimately gets a shot at head coach at UIC when Jimmy retires 18 years from now.

Someone should make a trip over to the UIC athletic department to check it out.

His Twitter feed dated yesterday says "Getting ready to go recruiting, as a Head Coach!"... so done deal.

Well, who do you think Jimmy will hire to bring the program down even more? Mark Miller and Bryant Lowe are good guys, but they are hardly X&O guys or potential head coaches.
I would like to see Kenny Williams put his name in contention.
My fear is that we'll see some "Yes Man" rather than a coach who is trying to move up the ladder.

Well, it looks like he got the job. Many congrats to coach Dildy. He definitely deserves the opportunity and hopefully he'll make the most of it and turn around that CSU program, which is in shambles right now. I'm curious to see the recruits he brings in and if they're able to keep them eligible. The first couple years will likely be very tough for him.
But what happened? Did he get tired of waiting for JC to retire? Did UIC sour on him and tell him he won't be the next head coach? Did UIC encourage him to take the CSU job, prove himself, and give UIC a reason to hire him when JC retires. Does Dildy ultimately want to coach his alma mater or is he now bitter for some reason? All interesting questions.
If you read his tweets, he definitely was disappointed in UIC not being more successful and he strongly believes UIC can make the postseason in 10-11.
It's very possible that he hurt his chances of becoming UIC's next head coach by coming back to the program as an assistant and being unable to improve an abysmal program. His recruiting was average at best, although word is still out on this year's group, which seems to be the most promising of his classes. Time will tell if he gets better players as head coach than as assistant to JC.
Who fills his spot will be interesting. Miller and Lowe don't seem to have enough experience to be an associate head coach. Neither would Kenny Williams, although Kenny is clearly aware of the team's problems.
We'll see what happens...

I think Dildy's move all but solidifies him as a front runner for JC's spot when he retires. UIC hasn't soured on him at all. In fact I think the timing and geography works out perfectly for him. He can now claim HEAD coaching experience for two years when the opportunity at UIC opens up. With even a modicum of improvement in a situation that is truely "abysmal" compared to UIC, who is just very disappointing, he can tout his turn-around talents and offer a full resume to UIC then......... Maybe he can coach baseball there too. Their men's baseball team was w whopping 4 and 52 this year............ Cetrainly someone will have to fill his spot but I think it will be very unlikely to be someone from the current staff or Kenny Williams. Let's be serious here............. Williams may be an alum and well liked broadcaster but he is not at all qualified for the "2nd chair" on the bench. JC will have to choose wisely here......... We all know where that has gotten us so far.............
