Here's one of our new players - David Ramon, a 6'7" PF from Spain...we don't get too many international players. ... This is the one I was referring to in previous posts. /photo/1 ...and some highlights...he seems to really get into the game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDUJ7plxBdc&sns=em

Well, I guess Ramon replaces Pat Birt's scoring and seems to be a better shooter and a bit more active to the basket. So it appears that Coach Moore has gone out and filled the positions of the most important spots: A PG who can run the team, a big strong Center to anchor the defense and a scoring Wing Forward.
If not anything, next season will most definitely be interesting.

I spent some time talking with people outside of UIC that are familiar with the players coming in to get a neutral and unbiased opinion and the feedback is extremely promising. An experienced and athletic point guard, a strong guy inside and a person who can open it all up from the perimeter will definitely be interesting. I like what I see happening.

Anybody know how they found Ramon? There is nothing on the internet about his recruitment or written about him as a player.

If we can find foreign gems (well it's still to early) like Ramon and like Valpo seems to do regularly, then just go out and find them. Don't give your sources or we'll have Kampe following suit as well.

OK since chuck a has him down as the next Israel sheinfeld how about just some information about him as a player? Did anyone else offer him? This day in age it seems unlikely that only uic would have heard of somebody. On the other hand, because of kaminsky and brust and a whole host of other underrecruited guys at wisco, I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they have found system guys that could be good. Though gorski, simonton, and others have not been that.

UIC announced the signing of Ramon today. On paper, this guy looks solid. Shoots just under 50% from 3FG? And he's a star in the classroom? Hopefully he can continue both at UIC. I hope he can play defense. No idea who else recruited him, but I'm pretty sure he had a picture of Rhode Island's basketball court posted on his twitter page at one point. Seems to be gone now, but I assume he at least made a visit there. Here's a question. I assume we're signing at least one more person. The uicflames.com story seems to support that by saying "five newcomers that have committed thus far". But signing day has passed. How can we still sign someone? Can you get an extension? Also, I still want to know where the last mystery scholarship is. How can nobody know our scholarship situation?....is it still with Fells? Is it with Burns? Can we sign two more players?

I get 11 also. And yes UIC can still enroll and offer scholarships to student athletes but neither party is bound until scholarship is official. The LOI is the official promise to be official.

Looks like we signed Jason McClellan, 6'9", 240 out of Eastern Wyoming College. He'll be a junior. Initially committed to Idaho State. ~11.5 points, ~3.5 boards per game...close to 40% 3fg%, another below avg FT shooter though. http://instagram.com/p/pKa3Zwxzgj stats.njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2013-14/div1/players/jasonmcclellandvucAnother guy with almost 0 information on him. Big body, but can he make an impact? Looks like the coaches did their job and got some size inside. Was this the big news Coaches Moore and Buttell were talking about on twitter? Why is this big news? Now, what's up with that last scholarship?

Looks like we're finally all shored up on the frontline, but I just can't see this being the big news they were talking about.

For those of us that don't follow Twitter, could you educate us about this "big" news? Were Moore and Buttell talking about a big announcement?

Judging by their Tweets I was expecting something a little bigger than that as well. I will hold judgement out as I have never seen him, I'm not a judge of talent and Coach and his staff have both seen him and are judges of talent. However, those numbers at a lower level don't jump off as "huge news". Have plenty of size now - this is true. Now where does our scoring come from? In for a lot of 50 point type of games.

Maybe it has nothing to do with Jason McClellan. Not sure what it is but if I had a wish list going to the Missouri Valley would be up there. They may also be speaking generally about the program.
