Welcome Mississippi State fans.
Excited for this weekend everyone. Appears weather may play a major factor as it looks like a ton of rain. Seems to be a dry spot though around game time for us tomorrow so hope that holds true.
I see some huge crowds are expected and makes sense with two same-state teams. Also seems that South Alabama is familiar with them so in many ways we are the odd balls. Maybe play to our advantage.
Well, hope to be able to follow along tomorrow.

Well that was a crappy ending.
UIC shot themselves in the foot today with 3 errors. One of our trademarks, good defense, wasn't there enough today and we lost 8-7. Up 6-1 and feeling good after a Rob Calabrese grand slam but gave up 6 unanswered. Loaded them in the 9th but couldn't come through with that big hit.
Well, we are down but not out. Back at it again tomorrow.

What a damn shame. We certainly pissed that one away. Best fielding percentage in the country: so we made 3 errors resulting in 4 unearned runs and costing us the game.
I guess we just couldn't handle the pressure of big-time baseball.

Gave this one away...up 6-1 with this pitching staff/defense should be game over. Both failed us. We needed a better outing from Jake. They couldn't hit him, but his control was not there today. If I recall the stats correctly, something like 20% of his total walks over the entire season were thrown today. Pitch count got way high way too early, and we couldn't turn it over directly to Ryan. Errors were uncharacteristic and disappointing.
Competed well...tough loss. Let's try to get one tomorrow.

It's not over but frustrating. Very frustrating.
As a school I want to move past the 'so close' feeling. We had that chance in front of us today and just couldn't do it.
Again, not over but losing the first one really puts the odds against you.

I believe Miss St saved their ace in an anticipated matchup with Southern Miss. Now that they're in the loser bracket, I would imagine he'll be throwing today. Curious to see if our offense continues.

I thought Dahlberg pitched a great game after the first inning. Overlooked in all this was the fact that I thought Coach Dee pulled Jake too soon. Yeah, he was in the 100-pitch range, but he was still good enough. Okay so Dee takes him out..., but then he brings in Schulewitz, who normally doesn't come in this early. Couple that with the fact that the entire relief corps came in with the jitters and were too pumped.
He should've kept Jake in.

Axaguy: but what of I said half the teams won yesterday? 😉
But seriously. I agree. Just venting yesterday.
I thought Mississippi State was going with their #3 but haven't seen anything official.
Let's play our game and get back on track. We have earned respect from yesterday but I want to earn wins.

Obviously, half the teams won and half the teams lost. The bigger point is that 4 of the #1 seeds lost (should have been 5) so a lowly #4 seed losing is really not only not unusual but expected.
Even Coach Dee appeared to be peeved at the way we lost our composure in those 2 innings that decided the outcome. He mentioned that we hadn't made 3 errors in the last month (probably an exaggeration) much less 3 in one game.

OK so we lost two and are going home. We competed and showed we belong here. Now we need to return next year and advance.... Should be a routine thing for us. Win the Horizon League and get to the NCAAs each year.. Proud of the team and would like this season to be a return to normal for us.....

As a Southern Miss fan, I wanted to come to your board and tell you UIC fans what a great team you have. We were very lucky to hold on to beat your team as was Mississippi State. Your players are top notch and easily with a break here or there could have won this regional. To tell you the level of respect our fans had for your team, as they left the baseball park yesterday to board their bus, our fans who were arriving for our game gave your team a long round of applause to let them know how much we thought of their team. A fine group of young men. I would love to schedule a series with your team. Maybe that will happen.

We usually do a yearly series with Vanderbilt. Going to Southern Mississippi the previous or following weekend would be great and help our OOC RPI. We lose 7 players, one of them is Jake Dahlberg, our game one starter. But we've got a good recruiting class coming in and some good arms that were in the bullpen who could possibly move up to starter status. We look forward to being back in the regionals next year.
