Hype post from Ehsan. Maybe a commitment soon.

Looks like we signed another big today. 6’9”, 205-pound Lithuanian Modestas Kancleris. He transferred from Cal St-Bakersfield after playing his freshman year at Creighton.
Creighton fans thought he was a major project. I didn’t check his stats, but at the time he signed with Creighton, he was shooting like 40% FTs. I would’ve liked to see him gain a little more than 10 pounds since freshman year. 205 seems light but he put up like 7/7 pts/rebs last year. So maybe we get 5/5 out of him? Seems like he could be a decent defender but not a very good shooter.

Seems like they're taking their time to find guys who fit their desired style of play, but I do wonder if some of that is due to Ehsan's lack of experience working the portal. We still have 4-5 open spots (out of 10! available this offseason) while the rest of the Valley has been aggressively filling out their rosters. Likelihood is this will be like Yak's first roster with minimal retention, meaning we'll probably be starting from scratch again next spring. But so it goes in this era of college basketball anyway. They still haven't grabbed any primary scorers either, which doesn't bode well for season 1 in the Valley.

And honestly, since they'll be at the bottom of the standings anyway, I'd probably prefer he fills out the roster from here with freshmen to develop for the next year. Yak tried this with the Clay/Jones/Jackson class but then refused to play em cuz he was coaching for his job. A little job security now should help them build this roster properly, and there should be a lot of undervalued freshmen available later in the cycle now with so much focus on the portal.

Lalman what if Carlos Harris is a star right out of the gate? I love that we are bringing in some euro kids Usually very fundamental and good shooters. I agree on grabbing a few more freshman. Surprised Harris hasn't had any of his buddies follow him to Uic.

Surprised Harris hasn't had any of his buddies follow him to Uic. Would love that, I'd love more swings at other high upside freshmen/sophs at this stage in the offseason than middling upper classmen who don't improve our current odds of winning. Building for 25 is what I'd prefer, but of course that's risky too, no good answers for a team in our position. Like some of their additions for sure, and willing to give Ehsan the benefit of the doubt, he's walking into a tough spot.
