I don't see why Carlos Lee wouldn't want to play for the Cubs. Yeah, the Cubs are bad this year. But with their resources, mostly freed up money from contracts of Kerry Wood and Greg Maddux, they can become a contender very quickly. Adding to that, Carlos Lee has said before he loved playing in Chicago and in fact still owns a home here. And with things that went on between Carlos Lee and the White Sox organization, you can't tell me he'd like to go to the Cubs and win to show them up in some sort of way.

Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, and Desmond Mason loved playing in Milwaukee, and all own homes here. So does Richie Sexson. These players haven't come back to Milwaukee, all signing contracts elsewhere, even though they may have been traded or such.
Championships are won with great pitching, and what does Chicago have? Zambrano, sure, but who else? How are you supposed to lure in Carlos Lee by including Wood and Prior in that "Great staff?" Come on, no player who wants to be a contender will commit to the Cubs.
"Become a contender quickly? Sure, I'll join, if you manage to sign all these other players first."
The only way you can get a player who wants to win to sign is if he is the missing piece that makes you a World Series team. Lee would give you a great Lee-Lee combo in the middle, but adding Lee and maybe a couple solid arms does not make the Cubs a contending team.
There is a LOT of work to be done to Cubbies, and I'll make sure those of you coming up next week know that.

Lee-Lee combination plate? I think I had that once when I was in Chinatown. Didn't know what it was...hopefully they didn't find it in the alley.

I agree the Cubs need a lot of work....A LOT of work. I'm not sure I even like the trades that were made. I mean, Izturis is a glove, of course, but the guy can't hit. He had a couple good months in one season, and now we're hoping he can regain form. If he doesn't, we have another Neifi on our hands....a gold glove winner who can't hit above .250 or break .300 OBP.
I find it funny that a Brewers fan is preaching about the Cubs needing a lot of work and that people don't want to play for the Cubs because we're losers. I guess when you're just under .500 for the first time in a century, you've earned that right. The only team Carlos Lee doesn't want to play for is the Brewers....is it because he has no chance of winning there? According to your logic, apparently. Saying that he won't play for the Cubs is ridiculous.
Depending on what the Cubs do in the offseason, I think the Cubs could be competing for the division again soon. If I were Carlos Lee, I'd strongly consider the Cubs with the way he hits at Wrigley. In typical Cubs fashion, I'm sure we'll make an offer that is borderline insulting and he'll sign somewhere else, but you never know. It's the pitching staff that needs the most work though. We need to add another big name and hope that one of these young guys finally come through. And the closer situation needs to be addressed. I'm sorry but I am not a fan of Dempster. Every time he's in, there's drama.

Yeah. I know Carlos is not going to play for the Brewers. But I'm not under the illusion that my team isn't terrible, like most of your fellow Cubbie fans.
