uicflames.com reports that more UIC merchandise is now available through their new online store. uicflames.cstv.com/genrel/061507aab.htmlWhat do you guys think about it? Nice to see additional stuff up...and I do like some of it. But you'd be hard-pressed to get me to spend $60 on a polo. I wouldn't buy anything other than a t-shirt through that site. The prices are astronomical. And, is it just me, or do they not have a single hat for sale? What?!? A store like UWM's is far superior to this. And it looks much better. uwmbookstore.aux.uwm.edu/SiteText.aspx?id=2260Sure, it may be all of their bookstore merchandise, but last I checked, out bookstore site is less than spectacular. I wouldn't be shocked if it hasn't been updated in about 3 years... www.uicbookstore.org/Apparently, UIC doesn't want to sell merchandise...

Man! Where are the replica UIC Flames baseball and basketball jerseys? I actually think both versions of the home baseball jerseys are very cool! Those would've been nice to put up on the site.
The only thing I would get would be the red UIC alumni t-shirt with the large UIC logo on the back.
Not a good selection!

The $60.00 polo is a tech-fabric golf shirt, which I agree is overkill for fan usage, but makes sense if you also want to use it for golf, tennis, gym workouts, or whatever. The fabric is the same stuff they use for soccer jerseys, so it would also be appropriate for soccer, or even distance running. The Indiana version of that shirt is located here: www.tisbookiu.com/item-detail.cfm?sku=2011207&navid=1&catid=1&subcatid=4And as you can see, costs $10.00 less. I am seriously considering getting one. I won't use it in the marathon, but because I am a bike commuter, tech polos make a lot of sense, especially in the summer. They don't hold sweat, and unlike bike jerseys, don't look ridiculous at work or in a store. The fact that it can double as a fan shirt makes it something of a two-for-one.

Don't get me wrong...i think it's great they they are offering this higher-end, multi-purpose apparel. If they want to do that, I'm all for it. But, they are obviously not targeting casual fans and students. Why can't we also have a site which sells more traditional t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc., which you would see in the bookstore?
The bookstore sells little to nothing on their site, which means if you're a UIC fan, and you want affordable clothing, the only way you're getting said clothing is to visit the UIC bookstore....incredibly inconvenient, especially for alumni. Heck, I'd love to pick up a shirt or two....but being in VA, it's not possible for me to do that.
It would be nice if UIC would just get its act together. Put all of the merchanidse online...period. Put it in one place. Mix it up...affordable and higher-end.
It's more of the bookstore's problem if you ask me. I think the new UIC store is probably only concerned with selling athletic gear, but any type of UIC apparel works for that. And for this new online store not to sell any hats if borderline retarded. Hats have sports written all over them....
I don't know...call me cheap, call me ungrateful, call me negative, but I like to use this forum to try and achieve improvement. Hopefully, someone will be reading this and decide that something better can be done.

Has anyone in Chicagoland checked out a Steve & Barry's University Sportswear Store? www.steveandbarrys.com/One just opened up over in the west michigan area, and they have college gear from all the michigan schools, I was shocked to see Detroit Titan stuff there. Which got me to thinking perhaps the Steve & Barry's in Chicagoland have UIC gear there. The prices are really cheap as well. So if anyone has been to one please clue us in.

Hey Flames,
Our selection at UWM's bookstore is huge. I like it. But just like your bookstore, all of our stuff is overpriced. Great selection, but 50 dollar polos and 60 dollar track jackets are just too much to deal with.
Our problem in Milwaukee is the fact that the bookstore basically owns a monopoly on the licensing, not the athletic department. So we're stuck with a lot of overpriced merchandise. We're in the same boat as you folks.

Hey Flames, .......Our problem in Milwaukee is the fact that the bookstore basically owns a monopoly on the licensing, not the athletic department. So we're stuck with a lot of overpriced merchandise. We're in the same boat as you folks. I think that might be the hinderance to us having our merchandise in the Chicagoland athletic stores. The bookstore wants all of the money, instead of brokering some kind of percentage with the other stores. I'm assuming that's why Detroit did it. By it being a smaller school, it realized that any outside help moving their merchandise was worth the split in monies. Our bookstore also has very little merchandise with the Flames logo on it. That is licensed by the athletic department. I feel something should be worked out between both entities so the UIC community and alums could have more of a variety when it comes to spending our money!

I also just checked the Steve & Barry's locator. There are no stores in Chicago proper. There are some scattered throughout our suburbs and downstate Illinois.

If you are looking for cheap "UIC Flames" stuff, and you live in the city, you should check out the Target at Roosevelt and Clark. they've got UIC Flames t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. This is the first time I've ever seen UIC Flames stuff for sale outside of the bookstore or the athletic dept, so it was a real shocker.
I suspect they are expecting a fair amount of business from the South Campus residence halls.
