Congrats to Coach Trask! This is a very much deserved extension and, I assume, raise.
It sounds like Coach will be here for a while, which is unexpected, and great, and as long as we pay him what he's worth, why not? He gets to run his soccer camps and play the Fire in the summer. There are some good natural rivalries right here in the city. He's home. And, he's shown that he can win at this level with UIC....so he isn't in a dead-end job where he can't win.
Trask does all the right things. He recruits well, he teaches well, the team consistently performs on the field, he wins, he and the team interact with the fans, and he talks like UIC is a big-time player in college soccer (not this "it would be nice if U of I would help out its little sister" garbage). It makes us sound like we've been there before and we'll be there again. Fans take pride in this type of attitude. Schmidt was very correct in locking him up for years.
As for the actual team, I don't think we're going to be much worse this year. Our defense will be dominant once again.
I don't think it's out of line to predict that before Trask's time is up at UIC, he will have gotten us to at least one Final Four, and hopefully further.
Congrats Coach! Looking forward to a great year!

I think 7-1 vs. ranked teams ON THE ROAD speaks for itself.
That is a phenomenal track record in any sport, not just soccer, and a record any NCAA coach in the country would be delighted to have.
UIC is really lucky to have this guy, and lets hope he is around for long time. Eventually, I believe Coach Trask will get the call to MLS, but in the meantime we've got (arguably) the best NCAA soccer coach in the country.
Can't wait for soccer season.
