Cesar Zambrano was drafted by the Colorado Rapids in the first round with the 5th pick of the supplemental draft. There were rumors he might be coming back to UIC if he earned an extra year back. I guess, however, that's out of the question now. But either way, good news for him.

Cesar now has to make the Rapids, which is certainly not a given. I wish the Fire had drafted him instead!
Aside from his many accomplishments on the field, he was also a major factor in jump-starting the whole soccer fandom-thing at UIC. Not only was he an exciting player to watch, the loud, enthusiastic cheering section he brought to the games really boosted the energy level at Flames Field.

Its interesting that they show him as a defender, seeing as how he was an attacking midfielder with UIC.
Is that a typo?

Interesting. I did see that on his Bio page. I wonder. I don't know soccer that well, so is it a huge change to go from a midfield position that you have played forever to a defender?

Cesar Zambrano is the best college soccer player to get drafted that low. He has everything a player needs to one day play in the world cup or for a team like Liverpool FCC. He is and or was a better soccer player than players at big time schools like Indiana, Saint Louis, UCSB, UCLA many more. To me he should have been the one number one pick of the 2008 mls draft. Watch and see from that class of draft Z man will school anybody, he will be the better pro.

He has everything a player needs to one day play in the world cup or for a team like Liverpool FC, Barsa, Inter, etc. He is or was a better soccer player than players from a big time programs like Indiana, Saint Louis, UCSB, UCLA and many more. To me he should have been the one number one pick of the 2008 MLS draft. Watch and see from the 2008 MLS Draft Zambrano is a Derek Jeter in soccer, a coach's dream.
somebody had something to do with him being drafted that low.

I have know Cesar since he was a little boy and his father coached hims little league soccer team. He is a amazing soccer player and has gone and will go very far. I as a friend of the family have watch his family support and backup Cesar 100%. He one day will be back to play with the fire. This is were he belongs. May god bless you in everything you do Cesar.
