I heard the bon-fire promotion before the UWM game went over pretty well, so in case anybody's interested in the next one, I just got an email from the UIC Alumni Association, which states:
Feb. 23: UIC Men's Basketball Attend a pregame pizza party in the Fire Pit and then watch the Flames battle inter-conference rivals, the Wright State Raiders, at the Pavilion for only $15.
I know it's a little early but I will probably forget come game time.

Funny you brought that up Jason.
I've always been curious as to why a few of the posters on here who claim they are UIC fans only go to the "big" games.
... or are too cheap to go to the games at all.
FWIW, the bonfire promotion was a great one and probably should continue. It plays off your nickname and brings attention to the area before a game. Therefore you may get a few more walk-up fans/students who might not even know there's a game that night.

Sorry Big D, I am not your father.
We have enough problems trying to get through to the promotions dept up here.

I attend every game, unless something major is going on. This thursday I have class from 6-9 but will guaranteed be in the Pavilion if only for the last two minutes. It's always been fun to me, win or lose, and I support the team.

As I have said before, props on the bonfire idea. I walked through it during the UWM/UIC game and everyone seemed to be invovled (students, parents, kids) Is the current promo you talk of even a bonfire though, due to is saying "at the Fire Pit". I'm confused on if it's outside (cold cold cold!!!) or behind that curtain in the Pav? Without that huge bonfire, it loses a lot of the appeal!
As for the complaining about the $15 cost, it seems that's including the cost of your ticket given it's promoted to Alumni? Nothing comes free through them.

Without that huge bonfire, it loses a lot of the appeal! This one I think is behind the curtain at the Pavilion. I'm assuming they're just trying different things. I thought I read that they were going to do another bonfire this year (for 2 games total)....but I'm not 100% sure. And you're right about the cost....I think tickets are actually close to, if not $15 already....so show up early and get some free pizza...why not?

Hey NFG, Are you a fan of this team? Just thought I'd ask. Yes, I definately am, but like i've said im not going to go marching in there like a zombie and pay $15 for a team that doesn't even seem to care half the time. Maybe in another 5-10 games if they turned it around, yes, but not until then. DII team, raped by depaul, detroit, etc etc etc. I've been to every game for 5 years prior to this one through the crappy losses, but not this time. Typical uic.

I'm not going to let you off that easy. What is typical UIC? I don't know what you're looking for in terms of turning it around. They're over .500. They've won 4 in a row. Tell me what you're looking for.

Tell me what you're looking for. TYPICAL UIC: What i mean is UIC as a whole. When I was a student there, nothing worked ICARDS, access to buildings, buses, housing, etc etc etc, the list goes on and on. No social life, no bars, no parties. The parties/fun that we had was shut down by police by 11 pm, and I had a great time at uic, but that was all because of the city. Typical uic refers to "boner" things that UIC does constantly. They complain about no one going to games - smart idea, raise ticket prices. No recruiting at events that a UIC coach should be at (someone mentioned that in a different thread) they complain students are sticking around for the weekends or even for week nights.. so what do they do? they build townhouses that are for $200,000 . lol and there's no bars , parties get shut down in an hour... construction projects take 3 years.... i can go on for ever.... As for what i would like the basketball team to do? WIN THE GAMES THEY ARE SUPPOSSED TO WIN... ok they lost go georgia tech, duke and uwm that's fine... the few games i've went to tho, the team looks pathetic, we got scholarship players (FREEEEE RIDEEEEEEEEEEEEE!, FOOD, HOUSING, COLLEGE DEGREE) and they are more concerned about how good they look rather than beating Kermit the Frog University... id rather have a bunch of jonathan schneiderman's out there that were solid midmajor players, then 10 superstars that don't wanna be out on the court.... this wouldnt' bother me so much if these guys didnt' have a ton of talent, which i think they are one of the most talented/athletic teams that i've seen in recent years by far... yea, and i know people are going to say that they go to games no matter what, win or lose,.. well that's fine and i think that's cool, but i'm not... this reminds me of the argument everyone gives about White Sox fans and how they only show up when the teaam is winning.... well hell yea, that's how it should be... why should the organization (white sox, or the flames) and playersbe rewarded (free rides or huge salary) for crappy play.... it makes sense... in real life, if i dont perform my job well, people wont hire me again... simple...

NFG, you're entitled to your opinion, but I have no idea what you're talking about really. If you don't understand the importance of the point guard in college basketball, then you don't know what you're talking about.
As for the UIC stuff as a school, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. UIC didn't build any condos, and they didn't really have input as to what was built there. Also, I can name plenty of bars within 4 blocks of campus. If you chose not to go, that's your problem. I don't know what you're expecting with parties, but having 100s of students in apartments, most of whom are 18, drinking tons of beer sounds like something the police should get involved in. I went to TONS of parties that were normal and sized decently that were never shut down. i-cards, building access, housing, busses, etc. I don't know. You'd have to be more specific. If you think there's a University in the country that doesn't have systems issues, you're mistaken. They all do. The grass is always greener on a campus visit. I've lived on campus, worked as a student, been an alumni, worked as a professional, and I've never really had any issues.
uicsucks.org is a dumb website. It's filled with a bunch of priveledged dopes who didn't like that minorities were all over the place. It pretends not to be, but I know the story. It's really disgusting.

UICjason, yes i understand what you're saying. And most definately are entitled to your opinion. But you make no sense at all. Sorry, I dont know what UIC you went to but it obviously wasn't the same as mine. Point guard?? Not sure where you came up with that one, except possibly linking that to my comment on recruiting. Importance of a point guard? Yes, very important position and so are the forwards and centers. My point is they haven't been recruiting as good as they should be. Like someone said earlier about a tournament or camp or something in the chicago area featuring a lot of chicago talent. This person mentioned no one from uic being there. As for building condos? Again what campus have you been walking through? South campus, 200k+, roosevelt and racine complex... obviously you're not paying attention. do they have control over it?? hell no, but it's just another example of how the social life will continue to suck with a bunch of families living around there... Bars? ?? Lololol, you're definately have no idea what the hell is going on after that comment. Lol, bar louie, hawkeyes, and illinois bar don't really count as a great area for college kids.... and your comment about 18 year olds drinking??? seriously, they're in college, and there is no reason cops should be involved in a bunch of college kids drinking at a party..... people like you are the reason why uic has a terrible social life... what's next, curfew for the college? go flames..
