Brandon Battle, a 6’8” Forward from Alabama State, will be suiting up for our UIC Flames next season. Battle averaged 11.6 PPG and 7.7 RPG last season. He will be a Senior next season.

Are these depth signings? Where is the big? We have nobody playing center. I feel like lately we’re mostly competing with low majors for recruits. Why? I know...insert “well UIC is low major” comment here. Battle played for a bad team in the 2nd worst conference in the country. Franklin played for an awful Tennessee Tech team that was winless on the road. I’m watching highlights in games where their team is down 20+ points. One has a 2:1 TO/AST ratio. The other has a 4:1 TO/AST ratio. One of them shoots 50% FTs. I see a lot of bad step-back threes...bad shots. Signing season is one of the few times per year we can get excited about trying to improve. How is this not more of the same? Where are the true impact players? How are we going to compete with Wright St, NKU, Oakland, Milwaukee...

I think we are going to need quality minutes out of Brian Taylor next year, off the bench at the two-guard and small forward positions.
Mitchell will need to be back and healthy. We’ll need 35 min per game out of him. In 17/5/4 too much to ask out of him?
Jace Carter as a freshman- would be great to have him as a 6th/7th/8th ma right off the bat. 8-10 ppg would be great!!

Perhaps these players are good. Their numbers aren't bad - at least the initial numbers listed on the stat sheet - but I know that they were both on really bad teams last season.
The worrisome thing is that these aren't guys that we see signing with us that are being recruited by other significant teams. We are being out-recruited by half of our league right now. We are doing nothing to make up ground on a league that we finished near the bottom in. This is quite worrisome. These guys might be good role payers but as was said they do not appear to be game changers. We need some game changers if we want to make some gains.
If we have another season similar to this past one then the luster is going wear off very quickly on this new coaching staff.
