I have seen a lot of talk about the roster for next season and the amount of players. The new roster is out. Teyvion Kirk is not listed. The three new signings from yesterday arw not added yet. If you add them all up we are only at 12 scholarships for next season. Bowditch and Yaklich are both walk-ons. We still have one left for next season.

I also believe someone said in a previous post that Graduate players do not count agains the scholarships? I could be mistaken but if not and that is true, that would mean we have 3 spots for next season. Now, quantity does not mean quality so doesn't mean we'll sign anyone just for the sake of it. But maybe means that it would be possible for Kirk to return if he chose?

Its going to be a very different team next year, as would be expected with a newer coach.
The five signees come in addition to the three Flames, Jaden Brownell, Jace Carter and Filip Å kobalj, who signed their NLI in the fall. "We are excited about all eighth of our signees this year," stated Yaklich. "Our three freshmen had incredible seasons with their respective teams. Jace eclipsed 2,000 career points and won Player of the Year in Florida. Jaden averaged 17 points and nine rebounds for his team in Utah and has added 15+ pounds since the end of his season. Filip will be playing with the Serbian U19 National Team in the upcoming FIBA World Cup and will join the team in late July."

Not sure if it makes a difference if he's on the roster or not on the roster. With the addition of these 8 players, when you look at the roster now, with the increased height, length and experience, there should be a lot of competition for minutes. That can only raise the quality of the 5 guys actually out on the floor. I really like what Yaklich has done here. You have graduate players, seniors, underclassmen and freshmen. A good mix. If these guys can play, job well done!

As much as I am excited for next season and the signees, here we go drinking the off season Kool-Aid again!

Sorry, Questcc, but I'm staying positive. If I have one problem with this message board, it's all of the negativity. Unfortunately, that negativity from alumni includes not just the athletic program in general, and men's basketball in particular, but also seems to include the entire UIC community. It's time to start being more positive, and if that's drinking the Kool-Aid, so be it. Otherwise, we're always going to see ourselves as a second class university. Too many good things happening for that to be the case.

I kind of figured with the commitment from Jalen Warren that might seem to be an indication that Kirk would not be returning. But that's just me.
The only thing I worry about is more growing pains with so much turnover in the program. I do think that, on paper, all three of our incoming Freshman could be impactful and that is a core we could start developing some consistency with.
But definitely reason to be optimistic. I'll wait until a game in mid-December when we struggle against a bottom-tier team for my negativity, ha.
But in all seriousness, I don't want to be negative but this program needs to do something to help give that positivity. This is a big year for Coach Yak IMO because one year under the belt and we had some moments in the first year but ultimately I think we can agree that with our talent on paper we were hoping for a bigger jump.
If we make the NCAA Tournament I'll be happy - even with a 15 seed. The hard part about that is we know that part of the 15 seed is our issue and part of it is the conference. We need our conference as a whole to start getting stronger and that does include us.

Kirk decided to give the NBA a try. Initially, he said without an agent. We'll see how that goes.

Right but if you try Nba without an agent I thought you could come back? One of my good friends is very high up in the NBA and says he has no prayer of making the NBA.
