We made Macaleab Rich’s final 7. I’ve seen some highlights and he just seems to make it look easy. He would be a nice first piece to our 23 class. pbs.twimg.com/media/FZMj0nDXoAADdnl?format=jpg&name=largeOne thing I’ve noticed…we have offered a ton of 2023 players, and while we’ve missed out on a number so far, the schools these players are committing to are definitely a step above schools we’ve lost recruits to in the past. It’s good to see we’ve raised the bar a bit and are going after better players.

Macaleab Rich will be committing on Sept 26, his birthday. That gives Christian jones 1+ months to work on him

Looks like he has set up 3 official visits so far - Ole Miss on September 1st, Kansas Stare on September 10th, and UIC on September 16th.

Made Rich’s top 5 along with Ole Miss, Missouri, Eastern Michigan, and Kansas State.
Don’t remember the other two that were in his top 7 that didn’t make the cut.

I’ve just got a good feeling about Macaleab. You look at top Chicago talent…they just want to leave Illinois. So why not have him leave his home state to try something else? Let’s be honest…Chicago is better than any of those places. We’ve got players that left Missouri and Kansas State so let the trashing of those places begin. One of those players was a high school teammate of Rich’s. Also Arch Madness will let him compete for a title in his hometown. Come be a big part of something on the rise…not just another guy on Mizzou or Kstate. The main worry nowadays is flat out cash payments to players. I would assume Missouri and Kstate could just straight up pay the guy. Doubt we can compete in that area. In terms of NIL opportunities??? Chicago? Here’s what he said about UIC in a recent article: “Coach Yak (Luke Yaklich) is the one recruiting me. They’re a very nice program with some great coaches. They say they love my game, and they definitely need me. I fit their style of play perfectly and could be a star player for them. I visit them September 16.” www.on3.com/news/macaleab-rich-sets-commitment-date-goes-in-depth-on-who-he-will-visit/

I believe the two he trimmed from his list were Saint Louis and VCU. Staying hometown wasn’t a desire for Rich apparently.
This would be a program changing commitment. Still not getting my hopes up too much as those are several high major (although not overly successful) programs. It’s a player that could put UIC near the top of the league but wouldn’t do that for Kansas State or Ole Miss or Mizzou.
Money is such a factor now that it hasn’t been. I wonder if UIC has looked at someone to specifically work with athletes on possible NIL deals. I know UIC isn’t a great draw now but we need to be and that is something we will need to even be in consideration for guys like this.
UIC gets Rich, some promising Freshman, becomes a major contender in the MVC - opportunities could be there.

Rich up to #129 in 24/7 sports rankings.
Had an official visit to Missouri as well (assumed he will visit all of his top 5; believe UIC is mid-Sept)

And Rich narrows down his list to a top 4 - Missouri, Ole Miss, Kansas State, and UIC. He has dropped Eastern Michigan from consideration so not one of the big ones but still another option gone.
He's announcing on Sept. 26th. I believe that UIC is his final visit of those top 4.

I like what he says about UIC…that we feel like family - www.on3.com/news/macaleab-rich-down-to-4-schools-with-commitment-nearing/He has Kansas State this weekend, then UIC to finish it off, so we’ll be freshest in his mind come his commitment on 9/26. I think us having a former teammate and a coach from his hometown has to really help our chances. He can come here and try to build this program up. If social media interaction with fans is the most important thing to him, he won’t be coming to Chicago.

Desmond White is committing on Saturday. Someone to keep an eye on. At one point, UIC and SIU were recruiting him the hardest. Will he be our first 2023 commit? phenomhoopreport.com/phenom-recruitment-update-2023-desmond-white/Also interesting, not sure what position Macaleab Rich will play in college, but if SF, both Missouri and Ole Miss have SF commits for next year. If SG, Kansas State already has a commit for next year. We’re obviously open at either spot.

Everyone has done the photo shoots and all. The programs with him on it. It’s interesting because UIC is so quiet on things but he’s so active on social media that we will see it all.

Rich's visit is this weekend. His final of his four official visits with his announcement coming in 10 days I believe.
He's been very open on his social media of his past visits. Quite interested to see what we do to roll out the red carpet. We've been able to see what every other school has done so let's top them all.
