Is UIC still bringing in buses of little kids who probably don't know what basketball is all about? Here's a suggestion for UIC. If you want the alumni to see the Flames (I guess that includes me), we should get ticket discounts for being UIC grads. I hear I can still use my I-Card, but I bet they have a way of checking to see if I'm actually a current UIC student.

Actually, I've been using my I-card for the past couple of years....and they still do nothing more than just look to see if it says "UIC" on it. Maybe in the future, they will have something to check, but right now, I think you're safe. |

Yea you shouldn't have too much trouble using your I-card as long as they keep having trouble packing the place. As far as the ticket price goes, it may be a little steep, but the money supports the team so it's going to a good cause.

they are still bringin in buses of people...but it's not just little kids. It's basically any non-profit group that wants get tickets to the game. YMCA's, schools, churches, etc. all get tickets to the game. (i know about this because i've brought my church to the games before)
your old I-card will still work at the PAV, the workers just look at the id and then give you a ticket. they have no way of checking to see if it's valid. i also use my old I-card to get in the games.
also, alumni have at least a couple games when we can purchase discounted tickets. I know of a couple games this year where I've been notified of getting $3 tickets.

A fifteen dollar ticket is stopping you from going to the game? Are you really that cheap that you wont pay for something you really enjoy. You got a great education from a great school and hopefully a great job out of it. hopefully you can afford making it to a game at that price. They also had 2 alumni days already this year, where you could buy tickets for 3 dollars I believe. Sorta sad I;m not a alumni yet I know thi s kind of stuff, maybe it got through all the censorship of this board lol

I can guarantee the fan support will be a total 360 this year. Being that I am in charge of the Fury, or the UIC student section, you can count on the seats being filled. The girl who ran it last year and probably years before that really didn't put much effort into it, but that's changed. Jimmy Collins has joined me in doing the presentations for incoming freshman.... whatever he and I are doing, is working.
If you want to see a difference, make sure your eyes see for themselves and come to some games. Your
I-card will still work, so you'll have no excuse.

I love it. Please spend time here at the board, Samantha, and you'll see what fans think (sometimes irrational, sometimes stupid, but always interesting). I hope you're right. It doesn't take many students to make a terrific fan section, just a few hundred who are ready and willing to cheer.
I'm excited.

I sure hope that things can change. Very excited to hear that someone who is very involved is working hard to make a difference. I tried hard last year and I think that we made a little bit of a start  But games like last year against GT, the students really showed up. The students were loud, chanting, getting crazy! And the game in Milwaukee two years ago in Milwaukee. Granted, these types of crowds aren't always there, but they have been and show it's possible. On that note, I am not sure how much help I could actually be, but if there is any way that I could help, I'd be interested. |

I'm more than willing to give the new Fury leadership the benefit of the doubt. They are already out there trying to recruit people 5 months before the season begins. What are some of the things the Fury has planned to increase fan support? What will you do as leader that will insure more fan support than previous years? Once the orientations are done with Collins' help, what's next to keep the interest going. Remember orientations are going on during the summer and then there's this long break until November. How is the Fury going to keep students anticipating the start of college basketball during the 4 months in between student orientation and the cbb season? What year are you in school? The reason I ask is because if you're a senior, it's going to be hard to put a whole lot of time in the Fury- it's your last year. If you're a freshman or sophomore, maybe you're not so tainted by the negativity that permeates the student body around here concerning sports. Don't get me wrong. I'm not doubting your enthusiasm and I do believe that you believe you'll get things done. We here on this board have been trying the best we could to get more fan participation. We've also tried to get UIC administration and other auxiliaries to help. Now that we have a bona fide member of the Fury visiting this board, we hope things change for the best. Some of the people on this board have excellent ideas to increase and maintain fan support. I hope you at least give some of the ideas consideration. We're all here (except for the visitors from Panther country 90 miles to the north) to see the Flames fans pack out the "Inferno" every game (the "Pav" sounds so lame). |
