hello all. i'm new to the boards. well, kind of....been reading forever just never got around to making an account and actually posting. so hello. you'll find me cheering at the games w/ UICJohn. as for the game wednesday, i would be there but because it's the night before turkey day i'll be forced to miss it because i'll be back home. i'm not really sure why alot of the home games were scheduled during times when students won't even be on campus. lots over xmas break too. Hey UICAndrew, welcome to the board.... I do agree that scheduling the home opener the night before Thanksgiving is not the smartest of ideas, which is probably why they've scheduled a "garbage" game. Instead of getting 2000 fans on a normal night to see a sub-D1 team, they're going to get 1000....not much of a difference. As for December, there's really nothing they can do....the Alaska tournament kind of screwed up the idea of any home games. December is the main month for non-conference basketball so the games have to be played whether students are on break or not. But, there are some really good games in December at the Pavilion. Hopefully, the games will be enticing enough to get people out.

Having a good home-opener would be great, but it could be that they looked at the options and figured that an easier game before playing GT would be in the best interest of the program. Being competitive against GT on the road is more important, I think, than having a decent home opener with some mediocre team. Despite the Flames' record last year, they lost to GT by only 1 point. Could you imagine the press and/or respect this team will get if they are competitive or even beat GT on the road this year. That would show both quality and consistency for this program. I think GT is probably one of the most important games for the Flames this year.

I wouldn't like the idea of the Flames not playing at home for 4 straight weeks during xmas break just to accomodate the UIC students. College b ball is a business.
But if you think about it, if the Flames played all of their home games during actual semester weeks, then those players would have a hard time keeping up with studies and something lke 3 home games per week for 4 weeks (to make up the 4-week road trip). But at least they wouldn't be on the road in that scenario.

......Gimme one good reason why I should watch the Flames play a lousy non-Div. 1 team...... Because........you're a die-hard UIC fan? If that's the case, it shouldn't matter who the team is playing! Now if you're not a die-hard fan, then I can understand the comment. When I go to a game, I go to watch the UIC Flames! Obviously it's cool if they're playing a Big 6 or recognizable team, but I still go to see the Flames!

I'd give the UIC freshmen students a break. After all, they never heard of the UIC Flames prior to this season. I could see a soph being a die-hard Flame fan as well as the junior/senior students.
If someone asked me how come I got a ticket for this "lousy game," it's simple. It's the start of a new basketball season at the Pav! I'm not counting the 2 exhibition games because the Flames are 2-1. Not 3-2.
I'd still show up to the game tommorrow even if someone gave me a ticket for FREE! A true Flame fan will try his (or her) best to show up for the first home game that counts, even if the opponent was Lamar instead! But for the UIC freshmen who like basketball, this is a good opportunity to see your NEW basketball team in action!

I saw a big Fury banner on the main page of uicflames.com. When you click on it, it gives all of the perks of being a member and some of the events taking place.
Some perks, which I think have been mentioned before, include...
a) free bus trip to Loyola game b) free Fury shirt c) Affinity Card: attend eight events, get eight card punches, and you get free food from Domino's, Quizno's, Jamba Juice, Taco Burrito King... d) Dorm Challenge: Dorm with the most athletic event participation gets a party at the end of the year. e) $500 bookstore gift card giveaway f) points for tacos. If the guys score more than 70, you can use the stub for free quesadillas at Taco Burrito King f) free pizza....if you wear your Fury shirt to the game, you get free pizza in the Fire Pit after the game.
Ok, but this is a damn sweet deal. I really have to give credit to the Fury for coming up with this stuff and organizing it. We never had all of this when I was a student, and now I'm bitter. And it pisses me off even more that more than 5 students aren't taking advantage of this. Wouldn't at least 100 students be interested in this stuff?
I am convinced that people just don't know about the offerings here. If they did, there would be more than 5 people at games. Think about it, how many students actually go to uicfalmes.com? And for those that do, how many know to click on the Fury banner off to the right. How are students being made aware of these things? They clearly target people in the dorms.....there should be flyers put on everybody's door. Flyers should also be handed out to everyone on campus as they walk through SCE.
How can 100 students not want take advantage of these things?
We need a plan people. It's going to take an effort from everybody. We need to get word out about this board....the flyer thing with the address needs to happen. We also need a better way to make people aware of the Fury. Emails do not work...I'm telling you. It's like spam that people just delete. You need to get their attention in some other way. Emails will only work for people who want to be an active part of the Fury.

Big D... Thanks for noticing what we (the fury) are up to. I'm sad to say that those "5 students" you currently see at the games are the Fury Committee members. We have been busting our asses putting the word out. If you were to visit the dorms you would see posters about games. On top of this, before each game students receive an Email reminder & also a reminder on Facebook.com. Your suggestion that kids "just don't know" is wrong... I'm not sure what the problem is to be quite honest but never fear... those of us on the commitee will continue to work hard for our school and hopefully we will see some results SOMETIME! I think if you were to talk with our Fury President JP you'd hear these same things from him. But anyways, thanks for noticing what we are doing & as always if you have suggestions keep em coming!

Now the question is who would win in a fight... The Burger King or the Taco Burrito King? ;D

Oh man, that's not even close. The Taco Burrito King would destroy! I mean, seriously, have you ever been there? Amazing. Steak tacos after a night of drinking...oh man!

I guess I will be showing my age as I am sure now there are much better restaurants around UIC, but I am hooked on Gyros after drinking.
When I am drinking I crave a Gyros and Cheese Fries from Greektown Gyros

Sorry guys, but the best drunk food ever is White Castle. I won't touch the stuff with a 10-foot pole while sober, but for some reason, my body screams for sliders after a long night....
We don't have White Castle in VA....it should be a crime.

Gyros are definitely good and that's where I get them, but I've never had one after a night of drinking. White Castle, now that's a different story, but I usually go for the chicken sandwiches. Haha.
No White Castle in Virginia? I thnk that's a sign. Open one up there and it would be a gold mine! The one by my house on Friday and Saturday night has 10 cars or so in the drive through at 3 a.m. You think ANY of them are sober?

So, are we going to have another nice Fury turnout for UWGB, or does the Saturday game basically kill everything?
Anyway, I have a couple more suggestions....
1) I noticed that the Fury has a registration form that needs to be filled out. Do you get a lot of people signing up with this form? Would people be more inclined to sign up if they just had to shoot a quick email with their info to somebody?
2) I know this won't happen due to money constraints, but I've been saying this for years. I really think the Fury needs a new logo. Not that the current one is that bad, but it need to be more interesting. There are just too many letters in there with the UIC, Flames, and Fury....Why not put the UIC logo on the back of the shirt....and put some fire around "FURY" or something on the front......

People seem to be OK with filling something out. Really, all we require is their name and email address, we've never gotten any complaints. When you tell someone they get a free shirt, they'll fill out anything. As for the new logo, thats definetely something we can consider for the future. After all, the FURY is now an official Student Organization (as of this week), and change is inevitable. Thanks for the input.
