Any chance that the Fury will be out for Wednesday nights game? This is the home opener so I'm assuming that they will be. There were maybe 20 students so far at each of the preseason games which was pretty pathetic. We heard alot of talk about how big the Fury is now so it would really be nice to see some proof of that. I know that we have only played exhibitions so far but we open up with St. Xavier and they are NAIA. Hopefully the Fury won't be so picky and decide that this game isn't worth attending. I believe there should be a strong student presence at every game.

I think it would be difficult to have good attendance against Duke the day before Thanksgiving.

I believe there should be a strong student presence at every game. Agreed....I think we need to have students out there every game, like all good programs. We need to get to the point where lots of students attend the games because they want to and not because they are persuaded to do so. I'm actually kind of shocked that so few hardcore fans exist. What I mean is, and I can only by the interent, but most of the people that post here have been around for a while. When was the last time we had a new fan really consistently come around here? It seems like we've been talking back and forth to the same people for years...and hardly anybody else....

This is a big problem you bring up Big D, and one that is not easy to fix. We are not alone, any program that is not a major, major program deals with these same issues. I know NU does, and that program has been around for over 100 years.
It is just that most students and alumni are apathetic when it comes to their school spirit, be it sports or otherwise. It would seem like we could at least get one person each year to develop into a hard core fan. But that just seems to be hard to accomplish.
No easy answers.

I'm just saying. I'd love to have great attendance at every game, but we're not paying attention if we think Syracuse doesn't have mediocre attendance on a Wed. game before Thanksgiving. Couple that night with who we're playing and I don't anticipate too many people. I'll be there, and I hope some bored students are, as well...but many of them will already be home.

Welcome EECS Grad and continue to post here. The conversations can get quite entertaining, especially when the Milwaukee fans begin to post. This year, though, I think we'll hear quite a bit from the Ramblers faithful.

Hey, I'm also an '01 EECS grad (actually, I think I spent a semester under the ECE program since I graduated in December 01). I was a CE.... If you don't mind me asking, how did you find this board....did you Google it? Or were you one of the poeple I emailed the link to? I'm curious how some people are finding the board....it may help us determine what is working and what is not. Like FlameFan said, it would be nice to gain a new hardcore every year....but if nobody knows about the board, it's tough. Let's be honest....how interested can you be in something that you never hear about....we get little local press, we're not a contender year in and year out, and what is there to keep people involved when it's not game time? At least with this board, you can get insight on the program all year 'round....it helps to keep people interested...

Oh I'll be at the St. Xavier game too, since that's one of the home games I got a ticket for.
As much as I'd like the idea of students coming out for the Flames' home opener, it doesn't help when UIC Athletics decides to schedule the home opener on the night before Thanksgiving. When most students are either at home or on the road for the holiday.
If I was scheduling the Flame home games, I'd schedule the home opener to be tonight. You would have a better chance of more students coming on out on a Monday night that's not as big compared to a night that you might as well call a "holiday night."
But even at that, the students might have the attitude of "Watching a Flames/St. Xavier game is almost lke watching the Sox play the Royals. I'm not going to a Sox game if their opponent is a lousy KC team. Gimme one good reason why I should watch the Flames play a lousy non-Div. 1 team. We all know the Flames will win easily."
(I wouldn't call this an easy win for UIC if you define easy wins as cakewalks. After all, they lost to UW-Parkside last year. You should come to the Flames game on Wednesday because...it's the only REGULAR season November game at the Pavilion. And it's the best time to see some basketball without using finals as your excuse for not seeing the game.)

Didn't mean to start anything here or gripe, just hoping for a good turn out for our "home opener". I'll be there! I can't wait to see how these guys are playing after the trip to Alaska. They really played well so I want to make sure I support them.

As you all know, this game is the night before Thanksgiving. A lot of students will home already...but that doesn't mean we aren't trying to rally the troops. We are giving out $10 gift cards to the UIC bookstore to the first 200 students that come in. The Turkey Can Wait!
BTW, the student attendance for the St. Joseph's exhibition game was totaled at 173. There were at least 50 wearing their FURY shirts. Students have their I-Card swiped at the ticket window now, so we will always know exactly how many are there.
If you see any lost students wandering around the Pavilion, please point them in the direction of Section 111. Students some times don't want to sit in the student section when other seats are open.

A Pavilion usher should be able to help a lost student out. But then again, I don't think those ushers know of the student section....

Nobody can accuse you guys of not trying. Everyone here knows how hard it is to rally the students...

as for the game wednesday, i would be there but because it's the night before turkey day i'll be forced to miss it because i'll be back home. i'm not really sure why alot of the home games were scheduled during times when students won't even be on campus. lots over xmas break too.
