He called US Cellular Sox Park? Interesting. And mentioning the US Women's team is not a good comparison. That was 8 years ago and I think that women's sports have risen in popularity an incredible amount thanks to the WNBA and the US Womens Soccer.

NFG,
Nice work on writing them and calling them out. Unfortunatley, I had to read that guy's response about 4 times before I could figure out what he was saying. No wonder the article was a joke.

"-------------------------------- Hi I didn't mean white or higher income but since the Bulls first got good, most of the tickets wer bought up by businesses, not families. This is a different client base The fact is, in my opinion, that families just don't go into the central city at night and it doesn't matter if they are black or white, rich or poor There are far more people right now and far more familiess that do live in the suburbs and a lot of people that are smarter than me douby they will come into the city at night. because of the schools, there are a lot more families that are ;iving in the suburbsI rarely see lots of families, black or white, that go to either Sox Park or Wrigley Field in the summer for night games Going back to 1996, the women's US Olympic team played Russia at UIC and the attendance was terrible. When the ABL was here a few years ago, no one came and they tried to draw families
-----------------------
Lol how about the part "the fact is, in my opinion"... and this guy is supposed to be a writer.."
GEEZ, MAN, GET A CLUE: If you are the great and mighty Oz, your opinion IS fact and your word IS the law. That's why God invented Ward Comiteemen.
ARCHIE BUNKER LIVES: The key word here is "a lot of people that are smarter than me". My guess is either he or his mentor is a cigar-chomping sixty-something who thinks the RatPack is WayCool and left Chicago when the "colords move in". That would explain both "Sox Park" AND the fact that the near west side is not in his solar system.
And he's right - the schools ARE so dangerous that I wouldn't come to down to the city at night. Especially UIC. Especially when they play Milwaukee. Panthers EVERYWHERE.
Which raises an interesting question: Does he even KNOW that the Russian olympic team tried to nuke us in 1962?

Does anyone know when season tickets will be available?!?! But seriously, it's great that they're playing at the Pav, but the last thing Chicago sports needs is a WNBA team. I have no idea why these people think that there's such a great opportunity here for a WNBA team to thrive. Every poll of the public I've seen has said that most people are against it (some as high as 75%), there was a team when the league first started (the condors, I think) and they folded before anyone noticed, and for crying out loud, Jerry Reinsdorf, a man who is all about having sports teams make money, ran the numbers and passed up on the offer last fall! Oh but maybe they're looking at the overwhelming success WNBA franchises have had in other markets. (HA, are you kidding me?) It doesn't take an astrophysicist to see that all signs point to NO! How are they planning on getting people to come to these games? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against women's sports. Softball, college hoops, and the occasional women's soccer game can be fun to watch. I like taking in a women's volleyball or tennis match (maybe that's for other reasons), but the WNBA just flat out isn't a good product. I'm setting the over/under at 3 seasons before they close up shop.

Well, the WNBA isn't about money it seems. It's all about making a point, and trying to see if it'll stick. I don't know if it will, but I understand the idea of letting it do its thing for 10 years, 15 years before giving up. I'm sure I'll check out a game or so...maybe when the Storm and Sue Bird come to town...but I can't imagine I would ever go for anything more than the novelty.
