Anybody like to read in their spare time? Since I graduated from college, I have seldomly picked up a book. However, recently, I'm trying to get myself back into the reading mode....just for the sense of bettering myself. I prefer non-fiction, as I like to feel like I'm learning something while I read. I recently read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, who studied at Loyola for a while. Very good book. It was about how we, as humans, are on a path to self destruction, and unless we change our ways, it's inevitable. Right now, I'm reading The Third Chimpanzee by Jared Diamond. It's about evolution and what lies ahead for us as humans. Did you know that chimps are genetically closer to humans than they are to gorillas, monkeys, etc.... My next book will be about some mysteries of the world...pyramids, creatures, crop circles, etc.... What do you like to read...any recommendations for good non-fiction?

Thanks for the recommendations NFG....maybe I'll pick some of these up.
As for Ishmael, I really liked it. It's an easy and quick read. To better summarize, this man comes into contact with a telepathic gorilla. The gorilla, as an outsider looking into our human race, is able to see problems that us humans are conditioned not to see. The gorilla explains where we went wrong (this includes a very interesting interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve), how we continue to do wrong, and how to fix it. The author's arguments can be rather convincing at times. I myself found myself saying, geez....this is real convincing stuff.
I would recommend it if you're into this type of stuff....and it helps to have an open mind at times....

Not done, but was reading "The Devil in the White City." It's non-fiction that very much reads like fiction about the World's Fair in Chicago back in the day and a killing spree rampant. It's got things about Burnham and other men who helped shape Chicago today.
That Ishmael sounds awesome to me. I may have to check out B&N today.

I'm not really a big fiction reader. I'm finishing How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It's got great some great stuff in there. I highly, HIGHLY recommend it. In addition, I'm reading a couple investment books, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Wealth by Edelman and a real estate one.
I'm looking for a good Lincoln biography to pick up. Can anyone recommend one?

Can anyone recommend one? well if you're talkin about abe lincoln, then check out "with malice towards none" i think it's called.... you can pry get that used for like 5 bucks or so now... or if you want a different opinion on him then check out "the real lincoln"..... im guessing somewhere in the middle of these two books is the truth....
