I've been talking with my roommate about the importance of this game tonight and the DePaul game and wondering if these are two very important games for a number of reasons.
I believe, honestly, that tonight is one of, if not the, most important game in history of this program. Mainly, my argument is fan-based. I think the students often come out early for a game to check out their new school's team. They find it boring as we're playing Middle Tennessee St. or something and don't come back. Tonight is the kind of atmosphere that could make fans come back on a regular basis. We can even lose, but this needs to seem like a real basketball game and not a joke.
That will draw in more fans. At the Pav, we don't need lots really, but if there were 300 solid students who came and coordinated cheers, our home games would be a whole different place.
DePaul is super important for another reason. That is more recruiting based. While they will be in a wonderful conference, we'll always have the win on their home floor and can be used as enough leverage to drag away a few guys...and we'll need it. It's hard to compete with the Big East.

I agree UICJason. The one thing we have going for us is that the Flames have a 15 game winning streak at home versus non-conference foes. We also have a 29-29 record in season openers, having won the last 6 home season openers. Needless to say, this game is HUGE!!!!!! uicflames.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/112104aaa.html
