Hopefully the UIC soccer team can bounce back from a disappointing showing last season. New Coach John Trask seems to have this team playing well. Even though it's preseason, UIC played very well against preseason No. 1 Indiana University, losing 2-1. Playing a team of that caliber and playing that close gives reason for hope this season. As well as a new coach who attended Indiana and has been an assistant on an MLS team.

As far as where Sasha is now, I do not know. He resigned after last season after winning just 5 games. John Trask was then named the new coach and ESPN even did a story on it. He has played at Indiana, coached there, and also been an assistant in the MLS, so his credentials are great. He has great connections as well, as all of his assistants are former IU players and coaches. He has had the team practice with some Fire players and his recruiting seems to be solid. Hopefully he can put the program back on track. Just a few short years ago, we were in the Sweet 16 and last year we won 5 games. However, we return alot of young talent and this is also the same team that handed UWM their first HL loss in seasons.

Did it count in the overall standings/rankings or was it just an exhibition?

Both of the first two games, the 2-1 loss to Indiana and a 4-0 win at IUPIU, were both exhibitions.
The season officially begins this Saturday as UIC faces Loyola Marymount in the UC Irvine College Classic.

What a drag! To play a national power in an exhibition game? I wonder how the Indiana players took the game? Oh well, maybe they feel the same way we feel when the basketball team plays a team like Robert Morris in an exhibition game- "this team is beneath us".

Well, you kind of have to figure that Indiana would play a little like that, preseason or not. But they did play their starters and even had them return to the field in the second half, even their big players. So it did not really seem, from the box score and game report, that they just didn't put any effort forth.

Is UIC soccer the real deal this year? Is Trask going to take this program to the next level? UIC beat ranked Loyola Marymount 2-0 tonight in California. LMU is ranked 24 in one poll and 28 in another. For UIC to shut them out on the road is a great sign.... lmulions.collegesports.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/090305aaa.html[glow=red,2,300]Go Flames[/glow]

I am glad to see that others are following the UIC soccer team. Yeah, this team beat a ranked team on the road. Granted, it was also a road game for Loyola Marymount, but a preseason ranked team against us? And we shut them out? Excellent. Granted, we were outshot by a pretty wide margin, but only one stat matters and that is the final score. I hope we can keep it up tomorrow against the host UC Irvine.
This is a young team, and don't let last seasons record fool you. They have lots of talent and a great coach. I really think they're the real deal~

The Flames tied UC Irvine 0-0 in the Championship of UC Irvine's Holiday Classic. However, due to a tie breaker, UC Irvine won the tournament. UIC still has not given up a goal this season, shutting out UC Irvine for the game as well as overtime and also Loyola Marymount.
In addition, Goalie Jeff Engelbrecht (I probably spelled that incorrectly) was named HL Soccer Player of the Week

If they do, did both goalies stop all of the shoot-out shots?

In college, they have an extra 20 minutes and if it is still tied after that, the game is tied. They do not have shootouts.
UIC has not given up a goal in 200 minutes of play this season.

UIC Soccer beat UMKC in overtime 2-1. The Flames are now 2-0-1. However, their scoreless streak ends as they give up one goal. However, giving up 1 goal in 291 minutes isn't bad
