UIC continued it's new tradition of a Spring game against the fire the other day. UIC lost to the Fire 3-0. However, the game, which was played in 3 30-minute periods, showcased the UIC starters and Fire starters playing to a 0-0 tie after the first 30 minutes. Exhibition or not, playing a MLS team and playing to a 0-0 tie after 30 minutes is impressive if you ask me. And to be in this good of playing shape in early Spring is a good sign.
Coach Trask in just one short season has done so much for this program. He has set up quality exhibition matches against the Chicago Fire and teams such as Indiana University. He orchestrated one of the biggest single season turnarounds last year. And this year his recruiting classes include an All American/Missourri Player of the Year.

How does the soccer season work? Is spring just exhibition or does it have some meaning like the fall season?
Coach Trask is going to be a great coach for UIC...eventually he'll bring us back to the top of the HL, where we used to be.
How long he'll be here though is another story...

The UIC soccer Spring season, as I believe, does not have anything to do with next season. I looked at past season results and they're not even listed on the schedule area. UIC played the Fire, and will play EIU, Northwestern, NIU, and Akron this Spring. Akron was for some time the #1 ranked t eam in the nation last season, so that should be a good test as well as NIU.
Coach Trask has only been here one season, but he has already done alot for this team. He did have alot of talent on this team but they were young and he made huge strides last season. And the recruiting class this year is very good and you have to beileve that having a name as well known as his is had so much to do with it. Even all of his assistants are well known Indiana guys.
As far as how long he will be here, that's another story. All of the soccer story quotes have him seeming really excited about making UIC a team that nationally will make some noise. Of course, that could be just the right thing to say. But some people like a challenge and while alot of schools would be bigger challenges to win at than UIC, we still are a midmajor. At UIC, he plays in a good midmajor conference, he has a great coaching staff, good facilities, the city, and he is from the area. So hopefully he will be here for a while.
It should be very possible for this team to be ranked in this upcoming season.

Well, the soccer program once again has made big news. After losing one of the Asst. Coaches to an Asst. Coach job at Indiana, Coach Trask hired Aleksey Korol, a former All American and College Player of the Year at Indiana, and former MLS player. I really believe that our Asst. Coaches are so qualified that they probably will all end up being head coaches at some programs in the future.

Just an update....UIC tied Akron, which finished last season as the #1 ranked team. I guess they went to the Elite 8 and lost there.
With the new staff and solid recruiting, I'm hoping we can compete for the HL title next season...

UIC Soccer signed 3 more players to be part of their program, including Ian Sarachan, son of Fire coach Dave Sarachan. Building ties with an MLS team is a good thing. But not to take anything away from Ian Sarachan, who seems to be one heck of a soccer player.
