If you haven't heard, tonight's the big game. Its the Chicago Fire vs the UIC Flames in a charity game, and the rumor is the Fire is going to play some of their starters! The Section 8 guys have this figured out and it looks like they are planning to take over the place. Read about it here: www.soccerpubs.com/boards/index.php?showtopic=19823&st=0At any rate, I hope any and all Flames fans can make it to the game. This is a tough one for me, I'm a huge Fire fan, but I'll be cheering for the underdogs. Win or lose its still a win. Should be a crazy good time.

Wow, a professional team is coming to play the Flames, their fans are plotting to take over University Village and Flames Field, and nobody on this board (other than me, apparently) is even gonna to show up.
All I can say is, no one will ever accuse UIC basketball fans of giving a rats ass!
Anyway, the party starts at Morgan's at 6:00, and the game itself at 7:30. I'll be there mixing it up with the Fire fans.
It would be great if there were SOME UIC fans around. But if there aren't, I'll manage, and after all, it's to be expected, right?
Now everyone chime in on your thousand and one variations on "We don't give a s@#! about soccer."

Ya know what I dislike more than those who say "we don't give a s@#! about soccer?" It's the idea from soccer fans that the rest of us are somehow missing out on something. I've watched soccer plenty of times, MLS, Euro, EPL, World Cup, and I generally do not find it very enjoyable at all. When it gets to the World Cup level, I can enjoy it, but not too much.
Honestly, people like different sports. I love NBA basketball, but I don't go around pretending that everyone who doesn't is missing something special.
I think it's awesome that you love soccer, and for the others who do, I wish they would go to some Flames' games, but lots of people just don't. It's not because we're stupid Americans who don't get it, or can't appreciate the intricacies...it's just because we don't like it.
Now, soccerfan that wasn't all directed at you by any means, just a good opportunity to post my feelings on soccer fans.

You'll hear no soccer bashing from me. If UIC still had hockey, I would be there all the time and would be very defensive about the program.
Now everyone chime in on your thousand and one variations on "We don't give a s@#! about hockey."
As far as college sports go, as a whole you'll only find football and basketball as the mainstream sports. Certain schools might have strong followings for certain programs, but across the country you won't find the same mainstream support as you do for these two sports.
Obviously we support UIC basketball on this site, but if UIC ever had football, you know WE would be ultra supportive of the program. (Not saying that it would happen, not saying it would be successful, but you know that UIC football would be viewed in a different light as hockey, soccer, baseball, etc.).

Honestly, I wish I could have gone. I was pissed when I found out it was on a Wednesday, a day when I have night classes for school that I just can't possibly miss. And when I found out that the Fire played some of their starters...I wish I could have gone.
