www.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/ilch/sports/m-soccer/auto_pdf/schedule-2007I am VERY disappointed with this schedule. 10 away games, and only 7 home games. Not good. The home opener is against Marquette, one of the few teams worse than De Paul last year. Western is coming to town the following Tuesday, followed by a month of away games before coming back to play Butler. The Wisconsin game is at 2:00 P.M., which will undoubtedly conflict with the Bears game and ensure a low turnout. Fortunately, the UWM game is at 7:00 on the 21st, so at least it won't conflict with the Fire-Galaxy (Blanco vs Beckham) game at 2:00. No other conflicts with the Fire or Bears games, so at least they got that right. If the Flames don't come back from that long road trip with a winning record, I don't expect many people will show up for the remainder of the season. Those games in October can be miserably cold, and because the grandstand is facing west, the prevailing winds are in your face. It would have been nice to keep the series with De Paul and Northwestern going, just like it would be nice to play NIU, but no dice, at least this year. Maybe this is the best UIC can do, but that long stretch of away games when the weather is nice has the potential to absolutely kill attendance.

Good schedule in terms of top - tier opponents. Bad because our home games are not at the most opportune times. Rutgers, Akron, Indiana...some tough opponents.
Even with a lot of road games, winning home or away will increase attention given to the soccer team and will increase attendance. While it may take longer since games like Indiana are not played here, it will go a long way in helping.
Hopefully our young guys can step up. I'm looking forward to seeing what All American Spiess can do when given a starting spot.

VERY difficult schedule. I'd be shocked if we came anywhere near the success we had last year given all the road games and the loss of a couple big-time players.
Can we continue to go on the road and knock off ranked teams? And will the new guys step up?
Nevertheless, with baseball already the premier program in the HL, and soccer on the verge of at least a mini HL dynasty, UIC is doing very well in men's sports. If only we could get that damn basketball program up and running...
