Jovan Bubonja was one of 4 UIC soccer players to make the HL's 1st team.
Bubonja, despite being the only goalkeeper named to the HL's first-team did not win goalkeeper of the year. The award instead went to Valpo's 2nd team goalkeeper Ryan Schwarz.
Can someone explain this to me?
Looking at the conference stats, Bubonja finished 1st in goals against avergae with 0.61. Schwarz finished last with a 1.55 average. Bubonja finished 3rd in save percentage, Schwarz 5th. Bubonja had 8 shutouts. Schwarz had 2. Schwarz had the most saves in the league. Bubonja was near the bottom due to great UIC defense.
How in the world is this Valop GK named GK of the year? If I were UIC, Trask, and Bubonja, I'd have a real beef with the HL. What's up with that? How can you be named to a higher team yet end up lower in GK of the year ranking? It makes no sense.
Obviously, the only thing the HL cares for is saves. From now on, they should track no other stat for GKs but saves. It's hard to believe that Bubonja led the league in saves last year when he won the award...who knows.

The title of the thread is really the best way to describe this. Jovan is an awesome keeper as evidenced by his first team HL status, as for the Valpo keeper, I have no idea how he got it. His stats (other than saves) are no where near Jovan's. Jovan can prove he is the better keeper when we make our way through the HL tourney again.
