This years rankings are out. UIC was ranked 11th (3rd in the U.S.) in 2012 in the inaugural rankings. Unfortunately, we slipped a bit this year despite each of our individual component scores (other than research) increasing. We're now 19th in the world and 4th among U.S. schools (UT-Dallas jumped 14 spots and surpassed us). These rankings are a bit odd. UT-Dallas' citations score nearly doubled from 44 to 85 in one year. Since citations have a weight of 30%, this is what shot them past us. And, they're teaching score went up from 28 to 40...how? UIC appears to have the highest teaching (learning environment) score (~ 62) among all U.S. universities in the rankings...didn't compare against non-U.S.. Don't like to see us drop in any ranking...no matter what it is. Hope to see better next year. www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2013/one-hundred-under-fifty

Year to year variances on these kind of things aren't too important. We ARE a well respected, top line university that is well regarded within academia and out.
We are closing in on our official 50th anniversary (or is it birthday?) which will remove us from this group's qualification very soon anyway............
