Well, we should all expect UIC faculty to come out now and say that a strong medical program at Urbana would dilute the UIC medical experience, and hence, it shouldn't happen. Then we could expect that whoever proposed this idea of medical expansion at Urbana will be run out of town like Stanley Fish.
Oh wait, nobody at UIC has any guts to stand up to anyone....and we can certainly expect our UIUC-diploma holding chancellor to voice displeasure with this...crickets....crickets....
We all know how this is going to turn out. If UIC gets X amount of budget money now, we'll be getting X-Y down the road when UIUC needs that extra Y to run their medical. In 10 years, we'll all be asking why UIC no longer has the nation's largest medical school.

I wonder how much the recent trustee approval of the medical stuff in Chicago all reporting through UIC had to do with this. At this point, I say let's end the marriage. There should be a drive to start a law school at UIC in conjunction with this. I can just see a top ranking for the UIUC medical school immediately upon approval, just like when they started a bio-engineering degree a few years ago and it was an instant top 10... Fancy that!
