And they did it in mostly dominating fashion. Watched most of the games yesterday and today and never really felt uncomfortable.
Schmidt hired Lynn Curylo to coach this year and it paid off. Nice to see an alum that helped UIC make the college World Series back in 1994 finally get over the hump with this team.
Congrats to the ladies! They really could do some damage in the games to come. Heflin's ankle may be something to keep an eye on though.

Congratulation to the ladies!
Awesome to see. Best team all season and took care of business (rather easily) in the tournament.
I was wondering why Heflin only had (I believe) 3 IP yesterday.

And 3 batters in and our best pitcher is done. Looks like she aggravated that ankle again.

Ugh. Not sure if it was scouting or just how Oregon leads off games but 2 bunt singles and the second one Heflin agrevates her ankle and is done.
Terrible luck. Damn.
Kind of annoying because the announcer just said 'She must have a bad ankle or something. Something we don't know about'.
How do you do NO STUDYING about a game that you're doing play by play for? Well, no studying on UIC that is.

Don't agree with the strategy of using our best pitcher against the #3 team in the country.
First, we realistically had zero chance of winning this game. Second, with her already tender ankle, Heflin would have been better off with an additional day of rest, giving us a better chance of winning the next game against much lesser competition.
I know the flip side of this argument: play your best players against the competition's best players. And I get that. But what about giving your team their best chance to win?

That's a tough question. I think one answer, maybe not the only answer, is, what message do you send to your team if you don't put your best players on the field against a superior opponent?

Congrats to the ladies for a nice season.
After getting blown out by Oregon, they came back nicely to beat Missouri 4-3 and played another good game but came up short versus Wisconsin 2-0.
Overall a good showing by the Lady Flames.

I agree, definitely a good showing, especially with Heflin out the whole series. We were in the Wisc game until the end and it could've gone either way.
Did anybody see that horrible call during the Mizzou game? Our first baseman made a nice stretch to get the runner out at first. The call was "out", which looked like the correct call, but then somehow, the call was magically reversed...there's no replay...how do you just change a call without evidence? Missouri was yelling from the dugout that our player's foot was off the bag during her stretch...that lobbying from a P5 school is enough to change calls? That was a huge call that ended up giving Mizzou a run and almost cost us the game.

Didn't see that call, but watched about 4 innings of the Oregon game; umpire calling balls and strikes..... not real good, for both teams.
