UIC lost at Butler last night in the first overtime.
Klassy said that basketball will elevate the other programs, and Butler is probably a great example of that. Butler soccer seems to have taken a leap over the years....I don't think UIC has beaten them in some time. We tied a couple years ago, but our last win against them? Who knows. When will our next win come against them? Probably never.
As much as I like to play a good schedule, I hate losing to teams that have gone on to bigger and better things because it's a constant reminder of UIC lacking vision and drive to get better...status quo over advancement. I love playing Loyola every year, but we can't seem to compete with them any more either.

Butler, as well as Loyola, both ended last season ranked and are there again this year. It is frustrating becaise we obviously aren't. The years of those Top 10 rankings are getting further away and more of a distant memory.
However, it can happen again. I worry if it can with our current regime. Don't get me wrong because we had a good season last year obviously with winning conference. But we went and lost to Loyola. We are no longer the best team in the area. And while our current coaching staff has us in a good place we aren't at those levels Trask had us. Will we be able to make that jump? Not sure.
But being optimistic, even though we lost, we were on the road against a ranked team and took them to OT. Also, the stats were even. It isn't as though we were outshot or outplayed much at all.

I think this team just might be better than last year's conference tourney champs. They should've beaten Butler, which have always been close games, and they did knock off DePaul in a double OT match. I'm confident we'll get back to the status of the Trask years!
