This is not the right section for this post, but during offseason, for more visibility, I thought I’d post here first before it gets moved. I mentioned the possibility of paying students to show up to basketball games in one of the game threads earlier this year. Well perhaps NIU is reading this message board, because they made headlines in the Trib today for deciding to pay $100 to 10 of every 1000 student fans that show up (via raffle)...great idea. www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-niu-cash-incentive-20180828-story.htmlIf I were AD, we’d be getting thus pub...not NIU. I think UIC should consider this, but go beyond NIU’s subpar system. Forget the raffle...fans should be guaranteed money and rewarded for showing up to more games. With NIU, fans that show up once a year could get the money, leaving hardcore student fans nothing. Pay fans a small amount and then give them more for attending more games. Why not? Is there a legal issue here? If you’ve been following the off-season, UIC is partnering with 4Front and The Aspire Group to increase marketing and fan attendance. So we’re paying a contractor anyway. Just cut out the middle man and give the students a financial incentive to come out, and even better, come out often! Is this the ideal situation? Maybe not...but UIC has a hard time drawing...and students love money. It’s like peanut butter and jelly. I feel like the new AD had to have considered this before spending money on 3rd party partnerships to try to get people out to games. Do these companies even understand UIC?
