After two weekends of play, the UIC Men's Soccer team sits at 3-1-0. Their latest win was a dominating 3-0 victory over Western Illinois. They began this past weekend with another one-sided affair, a 5-1 win over Valparaiso. Led by Sophomore transfer Bar Hazut, who scored 5 goals over the weekend, the team didn't really have any close affairs as they scored early in both and never looked back.
Their first weekend saw them go 1-1 with a solid win over Dayton. However, a 1-0 to Ohio State was not idea. Conditions were bad, they played a man down, and there was a pause in the game due to the rain. However, this was an Ohio State team that gave up 4 goals two days before. However, projected to not make much noise in the Big 10, they have started 3-1-0 as well.
The difficult thing with the schedule this year is that it really isn't that impressive. On top of their Horizon League slate, they have the following non-conference games this season - DePaul (3-1), Northwestern (1-3), Western Michigan (2-2), NIU (0-3-1), and Loyola (2-2). None of them is all that impressive.
I still would say that they're the class of the Horizon League and, similar to baseball, the league drops off (although not as dramatically as in baseball) after UIC and Wright State. The bonus is that game, arguably our most difficult Horizon League game, will be at home.

We lost 60% of our scoring from last year, but looks like coach has brought in some decent talent to not skip a beat.
I assume we would’ve gotten a result at Ohio St if we hadn’t gotten a red card. Oh well. The HL looks worse than last year so we’ll need to run the table for the rest of non-conference.
The 1st goal by Hazut yesterday against Western was a thing of beauty off a counter. Hopefully he can keep it up.
As a side note, the women’s soccer team looks to be improved. Maybe they can make some noise in the HL this year.

Another red card, another loss to a Big 10 team...this time a local rival. Disappointing that our season could be perfect right now if we’d stop playing down a man.
Also women’s soccer is just getting better and better. Impressed with the new coach. He’s been pretty harsh/critical of bad play, but he’s getting results. Might have a shot to compete for a top spot in the HL this year.
