Men’s soccer has started off with a 3-2-2 record. I’ve only seen one game (IUPUI), which we won, but I didn’t think we looked particularly good. Had a hard time maintaining possession. Had a win over Depaul, which is always nice to see.
Women’s soccer. Fantastic job by everyone involved to turn this program from an HL title contender to winless cellar-dweller in 2 years time. We are at 0-8-1 under a new coach, who I was excited about. Some coaches just have it and some don’t. Tom Anagnost immediately won games…then was let go in silence. What happened?
And finally, UIC announced a renovation of the soccer field.

This new “stadium” has been in the works for what feels like a decade. There were awesome renderings out there. Now they announce a 4.5 million dollar upgrade, and they don’t provide any renderings that are worth a damn. It looks like almost nothing is being done. Yes, new grass field and drainage…perfect. That will help avoid the flooding that made our teams relocate multiple times this season. Currently the field looks terrible, with discolored patches everywhere. However other than a new pitch, what exciting is being done? More high school gymnasium-quality stands? Can’t tell but that’s what it looks like. Brick entrance? No pics given. Berms behind the nets? Again, what’s it going to look like? Or are you just throwing a hill back there to say you’ve done something and the thing ends up looking like the cobbled together mess behind UH? This is a massive amount of money and I would’ve hoped there’d be a more permanent significant structure built. It appear this is going to be underwhelming outside of the field itself. I guess we’ll see.
