I saw the Valparaiso/Ohio State game and the first game of heralded freshman Greg Oden. If some of you saw him, what was your impression?
I realize that it was his first game since sometime last June and he's obviously a little rusty...but a potential number one in the upcoming NBA draft? Not likely.
First off, he's up with the big boys. Every team he faces has players who was "the man" on their high school team. So facing a team full these types of players will take some getting used to. Granted, injuring his hand caused him to make use of his left hand which will be a blessing, but he still needs at least one more and possibly two more years.
He's not a project, but he's not as fluid as he should be either. Just my take on seeing just one game from Greg Oden. Hey, my opinion may change after seeing him multiple times.

Yeah, I'd wait on that opinion until you see a few more games so that you don't look back on this post and laugh too hard at yourself. I think Oden is one of those can't miss type guys. This was both his first college game and his first game after recovering quickly from wrist surgery.
I can almost guarantee that he will be picked first by whichever team has the #1 pick in next June's draft.

I actually saw highlights on him from his high school days and he was moving much more fluid and confidently. Is it just me or does this guy look like he screwed up in school for a FEW years? He looks like he's about 24 or 25!
Anyway, the Bulls will wind up getting him if he's indeed the number one pick. The God for the Knicks!!

Yeah, to me, he looks like he's 45, but they say he's just 18. Or maybe 19, now, I forget.

The way this topic is going is stupid. Let's talk about Greg Oden's ability, not his age.
The Buckeyes are a final four contender with Oden in the lineup. If you think he wasn't great in his first game, what are you thinking? Oden, besides being a mythological Norwegian god, is also a machine. Double-double, not to mention 5 blocks. FIVE BLOCKS IN HIS FIRST COLLEGE GAME!!!

Oden wasn't great, he was good enough. Remember he was playing against Valpo (nothing against them) and not Tyler Hansbrough or the Big Guy from Gonzaga. If I'm 7 feet tall, I should be able to block some shots as well. Vandermeer blocked about 3 shots against YSU- was he great?! Yeah and about the mythological Norwegian God... it was ODIN and he was a mythological NORSE god. But you knew that because we're dumb and you're not!

Hey putz, Oden, Odin, spell it different, sounds the same.
And, being Norwegian myself, I can tell you Norwegian falls under Norse.
And yes, 5 blocked shots in your first collegiate game is GREAT. I didn't say amazing, or perfect, just GREAT. I think it's better than "pretty good." Pretty good is getting a block, 6 rebounds, and 10 points.

Man, I want this guy to be a Bull so badly. Plus I love to hate the Knicks. Starbury and Isiah could be the best thing to happen to the Bulls in 10 years.
Oh and about the whole age thing... I think that's where everyone draws the comparison to David Robinson, they look to be about the same age.
