This is a prime example of how a state's main University campus basically sells itself. UIC lost to UIUC 18-4 in Softball on 3/21. It was the first regular season contest against one another. UIC has an illustrious history of league championships and NCAA tourney appearance, while the Illini's softball program isn't even 10 years old yet.
If you had your druthers of going to play for a team with a history of putting teams in contention for league titles every year and going to the NCAA's as opposed to playing for a fledgling program, which would you choose? A no brainer right? The choice would be UIC. So don't tell me it's all about the recruiting. Most kids want to go to the "main" school campus.
The Illini's basketball team made the final four a couple of years ago, but that's about it as far as winning goes for that school. The football team sucks bigtime and what other sport have we heard of that's an NCAA postseason participant? Volleyball?

Even better Chuck....ask yourself who is coaching the Illini and you'll find out that it's a former UIC coach that they took away from us. Terri Sullivan was with UIC from 1993-1999, and those teams were fantastic...with fantastic players.
We still have a decent team but things just don't seem the same. And this isn't the first time we lost to UIUC in softball...I believe we've been doing that consistently for the past 2-3 years, if I remember correctly.
In fairness to UIC and Sullivan, she was a UIUC grad/softball player....

I thought she was a Loyola grad, because of her father and former Loyola basketball coach, Gene Sullivan.
