Some people will find fault in the fact that I am not posting under my regular name but since I work at the university and what I have to say is very sensitive information, I ask for a little leeway.
I am a former season ticket holder and donor as well. I am hoping this will be the last post on this subject.
Here is some more information in regards to the internal issues going on within the athletic department that was recently passed on to me from a co-worker.
In a conversation with assistant athletic director David Rosengard, he confirmed the allegations made toward Jim and Dane are true.
He said Dane was forced into resignation due to numerous improprieties, including Dane’s use of a courtesy car (Enterprise) for personal use, falsifying reimbursement receipts, stealing money from fund-raising golf tournaments (scholarship classic, police event, etc.) on the betting holes, taking university property (alcohol, etc.), providing university benefits for friends (road trips, golf, etc.), NCAA rules violations in regards to his son’s high school and many other issues.
The investigation was confirmed when Dane hosted the poker game at his house using university alcohol. Dane's former assistant Abby Smith had brought alot of these things to light after she was reassigned from athletics following the Dragon's Den alcohol scandal.
He was under investigation for at least three years and at least part of the investigation is still being conducted by the university police. Before Dane left UIC, he was forced to pay restitution for some of the recent issues and also return university property (computers, equipment, etc.).
David said Dane reported directly to Jim and Schmidt is Dane’s best friend; therefore, Dane was allowed to do anything he wanted.
David also said he had been issued a T-Contract (UIC Termination Agreement) several months ago and was in his last few months of employment at UIC. He was scheduled to be moved from athletics to the marketing department of student affairs in July and had already been moved out of his old office in the athletic center.
After the Dane investigation was announced and he was put on administrative leave, David said Schmidt apologized for the trying to force him out, re-hired him and told him he would have a job as long as he was at UIC. David said it was very satisfying since Dane had been the one working to get him out of athletics.
David also confirmed that there is currently a very intense audit going on within the athletic department and that others might be affected including Schmidt.
I just wanted to post this information confirming the rumors.
Now, let’s put this to bed and go on with positive postings about the Flames
