Just curious...I came across this picture and wondered what you guys thought about this old UIC logo (on the helmets)... Most people probably won't like it because it seems to support "Illinois-Chicago", but I think it looks kind of cool, and it shares that classic Chicago "C" with the Cubs and Bears logos.... Of course, you can see some UIUC in there as well with the "I".... If UIC brought this logo back tomorrow, would you be happy? Is it too unoriginal? I myself, love the flame logo....probably one of the best in the league, but would you mind seeing this on a hat or shirt somewhere?

While we're at it, should we revive the "Chi-Illini" or the "Chikas", too? I dunno, with the way the basketball season has started out, I'm thinking we could kick some serious behind if we went back to division 2. And since the Pavillion is half-empty, maybe we should just sell it to developers and go back to playing the games in PEB. But all kidding aside, the choice of the team the "Flames" and the branding of the school "UIC" are, in my opinion, two of the things the administration has done right over the years, and I'd HATE to see that "Illinois Central" logo all over the place. It looks really, really dated, Butt-ugly, and a throwback to turn-of-the-20th century baseball. The Flames logo is, in my opinion, by far the best in the Horizon League, with Butler's a close second. Butler's is nice and easy to read and understand, as is UIC's, but UIC's wins because it is more interesting to look at. I really like the way it incorporates the fire symbol with the word "Flames" so nobody reads it as the "UIC Fire". Some will argue the aesthetics of Milwaukee's, and I'll neither concede nor contest that because aesthetics are secondary with these things. UIC's is superior AS A LOGO is because it screams "UIC Flames", just like Butler's screams "Butler Bulldogs". Milwaukee's, on the other hand says "Can somebody hand me my reading glasses?....What does the first word say?.. Milwaukee...ok....uh...what's that? A black cat? Oh, now I get it, a PANTHER. Milwaukee Panthers." Anything with that many letters is not a true logo. Remember that it took UIC two tries to get the Flames logo right. The original flames logo was pretty awful.

I think that UIC's logo is the best in the league, but Valpo is now a close second for me....granted, you'd never get Crusader from looking at it, but it's a nice looking logo. I like YSU's as well.
UWM's...there's nothing special about it....
But Detroit's is god awful, and the new Green Bay logo was definitely a waste of time and money....looks bad....

The lettering was for Illinois Circle, which is why the "C" is nearly closed. If UIC brought this logo back tomorrow, I would be utterly distraught. It smacks of turn of the century and would be a useless reminder of when we were trying to ride the coattails of The Illini (The Chikas)! What would be cool would be if we had the current Flames logo (the one I use) with the blue square background on a red helmet. The conventional theory would be to go with blue helmets, but I think red helmets would stand out a lot more.

I'd support any logo on a UIC football team helmet. But if beggars could be choosers, I'd stick with the current logo and would be down for red helmets. I can picture "Red Out" games now, similar to "Maroon Out" games at Texas A&M, with all red uniforms and in the stands. Pipe dreams are fun.

media.www.thetriangle.org/media/storage/paper689/news/2007/12/07/Sports/Where.Is.Our.Football.Team-3138969.shtmlEvery year around this time, people often wonder why Drexel doesn't have a varsity football team. College football fever is definitely in the air and Drexel is no exception. During this time of the year, pundits argue about the viability of a playoff system in major college football or how to fix the BCS. At Drexel, the football dilemma seems much simpler. People like football, people want football, so why not have football? Fielding the team cost the university around $300,000 per year. Although the team did not make money, the university would have continued to play if there was enough like opponents in the area. In fact, facilities and not costs were the biggest problems for this team.
