bbstate.com gives budget statistics for all D1 schools. They're not easy to get though because before too long, popup ads asking you to purchase a subscription hide the view of the information on the page...anyway, I managed to pull the stuff I was interested in...
Here's the breakdown of total athletic revenues for 2007 for each HL school...in parentheses next to it, is the profit for 2007...
Butler: $10,235,838 (+0)
UIC: $9,968,203 (+569,945)
UWM: $9,918,205 (+0)
YSU: $9,814,254 (+0)
WSU: $9,390,264 (+0)
Valpo: $9,128,162 (+10,359)
CSU: $8,345,575 (+0)
Loyola: $7,430,501 (+0)
UDM: $6,889,265 (+36,333)
UWGB: $5,719,502 (+32,967)
From this you can see that we are the 2nd highest funded in the HL. We are also operating more in the black than any other HL school, which is fantastic. Now, maybe the other schools simply didn't report their profits (I find it odd that there are so many +0s), but these are the only numbers we can go by (as far as I know).
Based strictly on money, it's hard to say we're not running a successful program. Hey, maybe this is why things just aren't changing in the bball program...why mess with a good thing, right? After all, the bottom line is munz
Ahhh, but hoops budgets are a different story. In all of D1 in 2007, here are the rankings...In the parentheses, the first number is the amount spent on basketball and the second number is the amount spend on basketball recruiting......
91: UWM ($2,218,869, $69,620)
121: WSU ($1,661,575, $109,220)
128: Detroit ($1,575,285, $79,330)
129: Loyola ($1,574,113, $93,763)
138: CSU ($1,493,610, $83,972)
142: Butler ($1,463,988, $73,463)
149: Valpo ($1,402,355, $91,415)
154: UIC ($1,367,240, $129,749)
171: UWGB ($1,259,822, $55,774)
246: YSU ($846,665, $98,609)
We're clearly outspent here....so is it any surprise that we don't compete in conference every year? Almost 1/4 of our budget goes to Jimmy Collins....ouch!
