Any thoughts on tonights game? I mean, before we would probably just brush this game off as nothing because it is Youngstown, but after a loss to a D 2 team, I don't think we have many luxuries left. In the end, I think we win big. This team needs to get it in gear. After digging ourselves an early hole by going 0-2 in conference, we cannot afford to lose one of the gimme games. We have said all year long that if this team actually realizes it's potential, they could be really good. However, we're halfway into the season and I am not so sure that's going to happen.

I think you saw a lot from Ced last game, and hopefully he's on track. Now, with all the players back in uniform (not McGee, though) we should have a clue who this team wants to be. It's really up to them. They should win by 20.
In all honesty what they should do, is lose 1-2 more conference games at most, have a decent shot at a home game in the HL tourney and get geared up.
They could, however, just play passively and lose or win by a few, stumbling through the rest of this season.

Well, at least we got the W......once again, it sounds as if our defense is pathetic....we cannot guard the 3-point shot.
Also, this win is extra important as UWM lost to Detroit tonight at home. We're not out of this yet.....

Just got back from the UWM game, Detroit shot the lights out ... and never really let UWM get into a running game until late. They are going to get tougher as the season goes on.
How did they lose to Chicago State?

How did they lose to Chicago State? Too lazy to check, but one would assume Brandon Cotton wasn't playing then. Or at least hadn't assimilated completely in game situations.

Pathetic. I didn't listen to the game, but I don't see what excuse we have for beating Youngstown by 6. Horrible. It was tied at halftime.
Detroit beat UWM at UWM I believe, yes? I'd rather have Detroit be 0-2 than UWM after tonight. We still have to play UWM in Milwaukee but we get Detroit here. Plus, we played about as bad as can be (with the exception of Ced) and lost to Detroit by 10. Not good, but still worthy of some hope.
And finally, I think Cotton was playing for Detroit when they played Chicago State, however, I think it was one of his very first games. That could be reason why.

Dick Nagy said, "this is the best game in terms of offensive consciousness as a team." What do people think of that? We made no 3-pointers, and we had only, I think, 7 assists. Did he see something that I didn't? We did shoot well, but that's it. A win is a win. I'm happy. We have a history of playing close games with these guys, so try not to so harsh because we only won by 6.

At least it was a W. Maybe we will start/continue to improve?

Both teams shot about the same in percentage and number of shots taken last night, but Youngstown made their threes. I think one of the things no one has mentioned is that we made free throws last night. The free throws were important. UIC ended up making 14 or 15 of 19 while Youngstown only had one free throw attempt. The game could have ended up as a loss.

You are most certainly right, uicfan. UIC did make their free throws. I think we have been shooting pretty well from the charity stripe in the past few games. I think we have been practicing finally. If only we made 2 more in the GT game.
Also, can some UWM fan comment on their game last night. I would like to know what happened. I know coming into the season, some of us were afraid of Detroit. But their record up till now doesn't justify that concern. How did they manage to be 2-0 in league play so far? If someone can please comment, I would appreciate it.

McCants started out hot ... hit seven 3-pointers in the first half and had 24 points at the break (finished with 38 points). Unfortunately, no one else helped out on offense ... just sort of stood around and tried to play a perimeter game for Ed. Tucker with 0 points is proof of that. And when they did decide to go inside, UWM was waaay too soft ... 7 of 31 on 2-pointers. Ouch.
Give Detroit credit ... they shot great even though McCants played good D on Cotton. Their hot shooting never really let UWM get into a running game, which they prefer.
Theus hit three big 3-pointers on a 13-0 run to start the second and open it up a 21-point lead. UWM had to play catch up the rest of the way. UWM finally pressed and it really got to UDM ... UWM was able to cut it to four with 2 minutes left. Hill fouling out and a stupid technical by Tucker (hitting the ball as Cotton was trying to inbound with it still in his hands) curbed the momentum.
Right now I'd say the road to the NCAA runs through Detroit, which I feared back in August.

Thank you for the info, hackpanther. Tounds like Detroit played a great all around game. A 20 point lead in the second half. This in coupled with the win at UIC just doesn't justify their overall record. I guess that's why league play is always so different. Teams all know each other and are prepared to play. For most of the season, I thought Detroit wouldn't be a problem for us. Now I should reconsider.
