Joe Crawford, a McDonald's AA and freshman at Kentucky, announced that he is transferring. Early word is that Detroit may be his final destination. Pretty scary talent that the Titans may be stockpiling. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1964059

A freshman b!tching about lack of playing time when he's already getting 12.8 minutes for the 10th-ranked team in the country?
Sounds like a headcase to me.

No doubt about it, but so is Brandon Cotton and it appears that he is making a big impact in Detroit. The funny thing about Crawford is that he was a near-lock to start next year when Chuck Hayes graduates. These high school prima donnas have no idea what the bench looks like or what the word "No" means. If I'm Tubby, I tell him to screw off and have fun. He needs Kentucky far more UK needs him.

If Detroit lands this guy, we can probably forget about getting to the tourney for the next couple ofyears....they'd have two McD's All-Americans and we can't beat Detroit with no McD's All-Americans (last year)....it makes me wonder when Jimmy is going to bring in another great recruiting class.....
Granted, Jeffers appears to be a great grab....and Zoric is playing well....but what about Lance Young....at the beginning of the year, the guy was in the top 20 at highschoolelite.com....now he's not even top 40....yikes....I also know very little about Mayo but if he can shoot I guess that's good. But we need another recruiting year like we had with the Big 3.....that was a nationally ranked class....

Big D, we have an excellent set of guys coming in next season. Jeffers is an outright monster and is just like another elliot poole with even more aggressiveness (hard to imagine someone like that--poole is just as athletic as any of the big college players out there). Combine him with Mayo, a very nice outside shooter, and we have a new set of Ced Banks and Elliot Poole. This is not belittling Banks' work and contributions to UIC because Banks is probably the greatest player to ever come to UIC, but I'm saying that by the time Zoric, Jeffers, and Mayo are seniors, UIC will be a powerhouse. If we do not win the HL championship, however, this season will be a big disappointment. We've got NBA-caliber talent, yet can't seem to harness it. The Detroit loss is killing us even more. We BETTER take the home game versus them, or else Detroit will kill our season come HL tourney time.

I know that we have some fairly good talent on this yea's team, but "NBA caliber", c'mon ! As for next year's class, I seriously doubt that Mayo is anywhere near to being in the same category as Ced (maybe the best player that we have ever had). And besides White will likely fill Ced's role over the next few years. As for Jeffers, I've heard only good things about him, but I understand that he plays the 2 or 3, so I'm not sure if I understand the comparison to Poole (who I believe is the most talented post player that we have ever had). If Detroit lands another McDonald's All-American the whole Horizon league will be in trouble

I don't think that Mayo is Ced caliber. I remember bringing this up on the board, and Mayo seems like a shooter. Hopefully, he can be something along the lines of Schneidermann. Hopefully, a point guard coming off of the bench who can play a solid point but mainly be a threat off of the perimiter. If anybody is going to be our next Ced, it is going to be White like you said. Jeffers doesn't really remind me of Poole. If anything, I'd say he sounds like more of Armond Williams but can take a jumper. He sounds like Armond in that he can play down low if he needs to, is about 6'5" with a wide body, but can also pass as well as shoot.

If Detroit lands another McDonald's All-American the whole Horizon league will be in trouble 6 Months ago I think we all considered ced to be of at least, possible nba caliber. Maybe he would just get picked up and bounce around for a couple years, put he looked like a poor poor mans richard hamilton, he still might be. His game has diserted him since then, and he's kind of been exposed without martell (funny what losing a fearless floor general, even if he was a poor shooter, has done) The whole team has kind of been exposed with the loss of martell, AC and Joe Scott. You've lost a point guard who could get up the floor and distribute against anyone, who knew his star player like the back of his hand, and never got rattled and could break a press. Martell never would have got competely used in the second half of the duke game for instance. You lost your secondary outside shooter and scorer in AC, no one on this team but ced can be counted on to hit the three when they swing back the other way off double teams. Without Joe Scott there is no possible shot blocker/shot alterer. He had a lot of naysayers on this board, but he was an athlete and a great shotblocker. This team is essentially playing all 2's, 3's and 4's, mostly 3's. Cedrick can still be an nba level player (maybe) but it won't be next year. He was a mcdonalds all american too (4th team?) You're right though, if detroit keeps picking up talent like this, we're screwed.
