Check out uicflames.com. It's been redesigned and relaunched. Let this be the spot where we let the admin know what we think of the redesign. uicflames.cstv.com/genrel/102808aad.htmlWhat are your thoughts? Is it improved? I do like the way it looks, and I do like that all of the pertinent info is visible without scrolling down. I absolutely despise the ads. I'm sure they have to be there, but they are distracting, especially when they are dupicated at the top and bottom of the page. I wouldn't mind so much if the ads were static, i.e., not moving, flashing, etc. When you're trying to read something, an animated ad is often a nuisance. Also, maybe it's just me, but the site seems to be very slow. I know it's a work in progress, but every time I've gone to the site today, my CPU fan kicks on high speed, and it takes a while to load the page. Just now, it took over 10 seconds to load, when all other pages I've visited load instantly. All in all, I like the look...a little cleaner than the previous site, but speed is key, and unless they speed this up, I can't say I'm a huge fan....

The jury's still out for me on the new site. I guess I'll just have to give it more time before I know if I like it or not.

Ok, I've completely changed my mind about the new website. It's terrible.
Work in progress or not, it's been over a week, and it has only gotten worse in terms of speed. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but the only part of the page that opens for me is the uicflames.com logo. It can then sit there for minutes without fully loading. However, once I minimize the screen and maximize it, it's fully loaded. Same with leaving that site. If I type in a new address while at that site, I can't go to the new website until I minimize and maximize the screen. This problem occurs on multiple computers, so it's not just my machine.
Not a great way to keep fans coming to the website, especially when basketball season is about to start, and UIC's most successful team is beginning postseason play. I already go to that site much less than I used to before the change...
I can't believe nobody's complained about it yet...

Big D...I will agree with you on this one. The site takes forever to load. It won't even pull up at work unless I minimize it and bring it back up again. The pop-ups are killer too. It will just sit forever saying UICFLAMES forever unless I minimize it. I really hope they are trying to fix it but it doesn't seem like they are. I think it would have been fixed by now. Sometimes I don't even bother to check because I don't want to get aggravated.

It's super glitchy. I was just trying to find a coach to give to a prospective student and the site froze up, didn't load completely and is bordering on tacky, in terms of the design. It took almost 3 minutes to find the information and relay it on. The old site was great - good navigation, sleek picture quality. What prompted the redesign in the first place?

The bottom of the website shows a partnership with CBS College Sports. Seems like maybe it's a CBS formatted site (as it gives a drop-down box for other CBS sites). It this something new? I don't remember seeing CBS College Sports on previous sites, let alone this prominent.

Completely agree. The site is no good. I don't like the look and it kills my computer when I try to get on.
I really liked the old look and if I remember correctly, that was still a pretty fresh/new site, right?
CBS College Sports bought out CSTV (I believe) so that's why you see their name on there.

The thing is, why even launch a new website if it's not ready? What's the hurry? Do what everyone else does. Develop the site offline, test it, make it look nice, and then launch it.
By the way, the amount of gray on the site is excessive....is this the best we can do...?
With this and the piece of work that is uic.edu, which is horrendous, UIC should fire their web designers today, rehire them, and fire them again. How long has uic.edu been in its intermediate state? Again, why launch it when it's not ready?

Okay, they need to do something to this site. It is indeed too slow, even when you want to leave the site. That unfurling UIC Flames logo is very irritating! Get rid of it! It also doesn't have a link to the Horizon League, not that it's a big deal, but I would think you would have a link to your conference site!

My rant for the day. uicflames.com was relaunched in October 2008. It was god-awful slow then. It is now near the end of March 2009, and the site it still an absolute disaster. I have to minimize/restore the browser once to view any page on there. I have to minimize/restore the browser twice to leave the uicflames.com site. Some content doesn't even load. HELLO??? Is anyone in the athletic department aware that their official site, the only place that anyone can read about UIC athletics, is borderline inaccessible and extremely annoying? How this site could be in this condition for 6 months is beyond me. Do we have no pride in how we present ourselves to the public? Between this and the JC contract extension, how can we not wonder if the people in the athletic department have their heads up their asses?
Someone please find me another college athletics website that operates so poorly. You won't. Another case of the UIC A-dept showing its imcompetence. It's not my computer. The site is a joke on every computer I've used. The only reason I still go to the site is because I'm a huge fan. If I'm a casual fan, or a potential fan, UIC would have lost me a long time ago. Who has patience for this kind of thing.

I don't have any problems with the site, other than that it's a little slow when you first log in. So far as going between pages and different sports, it works quite well. In fact I just watched some of the baseball game on Gamecast with no problems. By the way, UIC won 3-2 in 10 innings versus Youngstown State in the first game of a doubleheader.
The only thing I can think of, Big D, is maybe your browser is the problem. I use Internet Explorer and have had no problems.

I use Internet Explorer as well. I am able to use gamecast, and I can view every other HL team's athletic website with no problems. uicflames.com refuses to load unless I minimize the page first. It makes no sense.
Am I the only one still having this problem?
