Unfortunately, I found this addicting game through the other HL message boards...good time waster... Overall, I think I had a pretty successful UIC coaching career. In real life, with these results, Schmidt never would have axed me after 2016. Instead, I would've gotten a raise. In the end, I lost out on a couple high-profile recruits and that caused me to rely on walk-ons....never a good thing. Four straight tournament bids, a winning record and only two losing season, but I get canned? I don't think so, but its still fun. The problem is maintaining balance through the academic years because one big class can ruin your career.
A fun find though, thanks!

ok goflames31, be honest...how many times did you hit that back button? If you say none, you should play the lotto immediately because you've got luck on your side right now. I think it's almost impossible to obtain that kind of continued success because you will inevitably miss out on recruits and have to use walk-ons...and most of them are real bad...
With that said, I'd hire you tomorrow to coach UIC....
Congrats on the honor roll!

I liken the back button to just throwing more booster money at recruits, so all takes is money.
To answer your question, after getting fired continually after 5-7 years with multiple tourney appearances/conference titles/winning record I said the system is flawed and trying to be above it is pointless so I will play by their rules and see where it takes me. So I used the back button a lot.

That's not fair goflames31!!! I still play by the rules, but am tempted to just back until I get every recruit I'm after. There are times when there are actually no recruits worth going after- at least according to their ratings. If there are only recruits with 5.00's, I just stick with what I have or even look into the walk-ons. Sometimes the game 'hides' potential blue-chippers in the walk-ons. You do have to be shrewd in your recruiting and "evaluating talent". Some recruits you get with a 7.00+, don't even progress from year to year, while a recruit with a 5.50 or 6.00 jumps up after the first season. Although it's a crapshoot, recruiting is still what gets you to the dance. The game certainly is addicting. I think I waste at least 1 hour of work time trying to get that national championship. One season, I did get to the final four only to lose to eventual champion...Youngstown State!!!!

I guess the game only gives you 50 years. I still had a contract through the years 2064. But they had me dying in my sleep. After playing this game, I really have a new found respect for coaches. It is quite difficult, first of all, to get to the Dance. Secondly, to achieve 500 wins is a monumental task. I only won 2 national championships in 50 years! All I had to do was pick a pretty good recruit...and sometimes even when had a decent seasoned player, had to realize that I should replace him with a newer player that could keep me on the winning side. But ultimately the game lies in the 'hands' of the computer.
Much like real coaches, they have to make sure they get the type of player that will make and keep them successful. Ultimately though, it's the players that go out and perform. The game also showed me that if you have a record of regularly making it do the Dance and winning some games, your chances of getting multiple recruits increases. It's quite addictive. Today, I think I spent at least.....well I'd rather not say. Some University employees might be watching!

================ 610 wins and 8 national championships...not bad. The game is pretty streaky. Recruiting was also my favorite part of college sports games. Almost reminds of those Andy Dolphin simulator leagues. I was surprised when I had guys rated a 7 showing up as a walk on at one point. They helped when I didn't get any recruits during a run there.

One thing I didn't like was the ease of making it into the tournament. There were a number of times I shouldn't have gotten in, but I still made it. Less a terrible season...you will make it into the dance. It didn't seem like it was a big thing getting in after a while.

Tracy did a good job. Although his "retirement" from UIC is more likely taking a job with a team in a bigger conference.
Ok, my question is this...let's say UIC actually become the Gonzaga of the Midwest. A perennial winner for a mid major. If you were the Coach who took them to that level, if money was not a factor, would you leave for a program in a power conference or would you stick with the mid major and most likely dominate for years to come with less pressure to win? Granted, I'm sure people would like to replace Coach K at Duke or something, but let's say you have an option of staying at UIC after taking them up a notch or moving on to someplace...let's say...oh...Auburn.
What's your take?

Hopefuly Trask is setting a trend in that department.
I would say that making a program the king of Chicago college basketball is enticing enough to keep whomever this hypothetical coach may be. Its not like we are talking about being at SIU or Creighton etc...

I NEVER hit the "Back" button. I think they need to give you career highlights more respect. 100th win, 200th, win, etc. Plus, I found a bias: When you win conference, no one else in your conference comes with you, but if you get an "at large" all of the other team in front of you in your conference go also.
At least I got 2 National Championships

Well EzE, if money was not a factor, I would definitely stay at the mid-major, especially if it was UIC. I mean, living in a real city instead of a cornfield is enough for me to stay.
However, when it comes to Trask, that is the difference. The big time programs from big time conferences in basketball can offer a hell of a lot more money to a coach than UIC could or pretty much any mid major for that matter. Soccer, at least to my belief, is a difference. We are a mid major but we take our soccer program a little more serious. Some big time schools would put a lot more into football, basketball, and sports of that nature and leave soccer on the back burner. I believe what Trask makes at UIC is pretty good compared to most college soccer programs, and not just mid majors. I could be a little off but I am pretty sure.
