UIC has an RPI of 84 as of right now (3 points better than where we ended last year)....if I remember correctly, this is probably 100+ points or better than we were at the same time last year.
We're gonna have to keep rooting for our opponents...like Duke at NC-State right now....
Also, the key will be winning big games on the road while holding home court. For those of you that don't know, the RPI has been adjusted this year. In years past, home/road wins/losses were weighted the same (1.0). But now, home wins are worth 0.6 while home losses are worth 1.4 (magified) and it's the other way around for road games....according to the RPI site, depending on how the committee decides to apply these new weights, mid-majors are generally helped while majors suffer. In fact, according to the same site, we would have been the 6th most helped team last year had the RPI been done this way. That is, we finished with an RPI of 87 last year, but would've finished at 69....while majors tend to drop in RPI.

Are you sure about the new home/away weightings? Here is a popular RPI site and all I see is the standard RPI formula. www.kenpom.com/rpi.phpWhere did you hear about this new formula?

I don't believe that RPI really matters anymore. We need to win the HL tournament to get in. We are not going to get an at-large bid, and we are not getting an NIT invitation. Sucks, but that's how I feel.

Sucks, but that's how I feel. Same here. And the way we've been playing, it doesn't look like we're going to be winning the rest of the games.

With the win over Cleveland State, we dropped almost 20 spots to an RPI of 101.....yikes. Sure, the RPI doesn't really matter to us because we're not going to be getting an at-large bid, but we should still try and get the best bracket buster opponent as possible....and I'm sure the pairing committee will take RPI into account.

RPI = Really Poor Indicator of whether or not your team will make the tourney.

Disagreed. I think its a great indicator of both if your team will make it and where they will be seeded. Our RPI is still important for our seed if we make the tourney.

Well, right now all we can do is go out and win and not worry about that type of thing right now. We have one way of making the Tourney and that's winning conference. We keep winning, hopefully draw a decent team for the Bracket Buster and win out as many as we can.

For seeding purposes, it is useful. But for deciding who makes the tourney...it can be iffy. Conference champs, top 25 schools are locks. Then you have the big schools that make it on a regular basis, they are most likely in. They you have the bubble teams that may or may not make and RPI is a factor, but there are also politics that are involved. Once they are in...it has a huge factor for seeding, I will not argue that.
