Josh Beard - Schaumburg (Northwest suburban All-Area Boys Soccer Team) Two-time all-state star and last year's all-area co-captain received serious consideration for the same award again this fall. A thrilling attacking player, the four-year varsity starter is equally brilliant when called upon to defend, as he was early by coach Hamid Mehreioskouei while the Saxons sorted out its first-11. "Josh has the ability to make an impact on a match like no other player, yet is able to make everyone around him excel," offered his coach of the UIC-bound, 3-time all-MSL pick. Perhaps the most complete player on both sides of the ball in the area, he will attack and defend with skill and intelligence, with an arsenal of weapons that excite even the casual fan. Scored 19 of his 40 career goals this season and had 24 assists. |
Leo Elizalde - Wheeling (Northwest suburban All-Area Boys Soccer Team) One of the premier players in the MSL and the area was rewarded with back-to-back East Player of the Year honors before gaining much deserved all-state honors this fall to help validate his spot alongside Barrington's Ata Ozbay as co-captain of this year's all-area team. "Leo is the heart and soul of our team. Period," said coach Ed Uhrik. "He is an incredible leader, with an exceptional attitude and work rate in which everyone around him admires and looks up to." In his four years, the Wildcats captain managed to move up the statistical history charts, finishing 10th in goals scored in a season (18), tied for eighth in career points (86) and seventh in career goals (34). DePaul, UIC and Dominican are among his college favorites. |
Ryan Roberts - York (DuPage Co. All-Area Boys Soccer Team) Roberts posted 17 goals and 12 assists in leading York to the West Suburban Silver title this year and a record of 14-5 overall. The senior scored 7 game-winning goals, had a tremendous work rate, good speed with the ball and was one of the area's best finishers. Roberts will play at the next level and is considering both UIC and NIU. |
