There's been some recent concern about guests posting, and whether it should be allowed.
Here's my position when it comes to guests posting:
UIC's fanbase is small. UIC's online fanbase is even smaller. I have always allowed guests to post to increase the amount of activity we see here. I think it has worked in a positive way. Now it's all the sudden bothering people...maybe because we have more guests now...or maybe you don't agree with what they're writing. But, turning off guest posting WILL reduce activity here...not just from people who annoy some of you, but from people who actually have something to contribute. No matter how easy it is to register, some people just won't do it. Do you think the Collins family will register and continue to post? Do you think we won't lose some random fans from other schools that come here to post. I have wanted to make comments on Butler's message board for years, but I refuse to go through their registration process to do so. So ask yourself if you really want guest posting turned off.
The real positive to me with banning guests is that spamming will pretty much end. We've been spammed off and on since this board was created. I have been very diligent in removing these posts and blocking their IP addresses. Most of the spamming comes from China. Since there are few, if any, UIC fans in China, I block ranges of IP addresses associated with spammers in that country. And spamming has been kept to a minimum. I think most would agree. Our most recent spammer was from California. I am hesitant to ban ranges of California IPs because there may be UIC fans out there. However, I have noted his/her IP address and they will be banned if he/she posts again.
With all that said, I'm willing to do what the UIC fanbase wants me to. Obviously, I want to make coming here an enjoyable experience for as many as my fellow UIC fans as I can. So, if you want me to turn off guest posting, I will. But ask yourself if you really want it...or if you're just annoyed because you want Jimmy fired and the guests don't.
Have at it.
