Former UIC star Curtis Granderson hit his first major league HR against the Minnesota Twins today. It was a game winner in the bottom of the 7th off of Carlos Silva. In addition to that, he made a great catch while playing CF. If anybody has time, make sure to catch the highlights on ESPN. Very fun seeing a guy on ESPN who I saw play at Flames Field just a few years ago.

Curtis had another good day today...he went 2-3 with a walk, a triple, a HR, and 2 RBI. He's raised his average to .429. A lot of people on the Detroit Tigers message board are real excited about him. From the comments, his defense is suspect in CF. He's inconsistent....made a great play yesterday and completely misjudged a ball today.... You can actually see Granderson video highlights if you click on this link and look for another link which says "Granderson's Big Day". Detroit Tigers page

Sorry to keep bumping these Granderson threads, but he has been playing well for Detroit as of late. Last night against Cy Young candidate Bartolo Colon, Granderson hit a 3-run inside-the-park homerun and raised his average to .295. He also robbed Molina of homerun with a leaping catch in CF (after the stadium people prematurely set off fireworks). You can see both videos at detroittigers.com. Also, there is a new baseball center being constructed at UIC. Granderson was one of several who made a significant donation...$25,000. Now, I'm not sure what he's paid for his little time in the majors, but that sounds like a big chunk of money from a young guy....very generous! uicflames.collegesports.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/091605aab.html

I have been seeing his name more and more. The other day I think he went 3-3 with a HR. Granted, when you don't hear about him, that means he probably didn't do much and I don't really follow the Tigers. But great to hear he is doing good and also great to hear he is giving some back to UIC!
