Get to see Curtis Granderson for the next four days at the Tigers are playing the White Sox. He's batting .293 with 7 HRs and 19 RBIs and leads the team in slugging percentage. However, in his first at bat, he struck out tonight.

Well, he took care of that tonight with a walk off homer...I want him to do well, just not against the Sox right now.

I must say that I was surprised to see the word "UIC" mentioned in an article about the Sox game last night. There is an article at chicagotribune.com...and the headline is "Flameout: Ex-UIC star's..." Last night I checked, and they mentioned he was from T.F. South but not from UIC. I really didn't expect them to even give UIC a word of mention for developing such a good player....it would only be typical of Chicago media. But I was wrong... Unfortunately, Sportcenter still doesn't have its act together. After referring to him as either "Grunderson" or "Gunderson" when he first hit the scene, they finally got his last name right...but I swear they said his first name was "Chris" last night. Anyway, good for Curtis...his coach and teammates project him to be the starter for next year and beyond.

I will no longer mention the name of that s.o.b. If he were to suffer a career ending injury, I wouldn't shed a tear!

Come on now, that's harsh. It's not like it was Game 7 of the World Series. We're all still fellow Flames.
Blame Politte for throwing it there?

I agree. Granderson is doing his job, and I hope he continues to make UIC proud with another walk-off home run tonight!!!

I'm a die-hard Sox fan, but I was pretty happy to see Granderson get that success. The Sox will still get this series from the Tigers and make it into the playoffs, albeit with a limp.
It's extremely rare that UIC get's anybody in the pros at any sport level let alone do well once they get there (a la Sherell Ford). For Granderson to be getting a look in the lead-off spot from his manager says a lot about how they project him for next season. The kid's only going to get better. If he ever develops a patient eye at the plate.....man look out!

I still say screw em'! Besides, it's baseball...unless you won the college w.s. or something, there don't talk much about a player's college days. Of course, if more players actually went to college...then they might talk more about it.

Screw them?
I think it's safe to say that Curtis Granderson is the best player to ever wear a UIC Flames uniform. And I don't think it is AT ALL unreasonable to think that in the future, he might be able to be called the best player to play at UIC in any sport. It could be argued, but softball and gymnastic have had a few All Americans.

It could be argued, but softball and gymnastic have had a few All Americans. I don't think it can be argued. The proof is in the pudding. Sherell lasted one season in the NBA. Samantha Iuli, who I thought was the best player in the history of any UIC sport and an all-american, wasn't asked to play for the USA in the Olympics nor did she play any professional softball after her career was over at UIC (there might not have been any professional softball teams at the time, however.) At this point, Granderson is by far the best in UIC history. With all of the levels of the minor leagues and the hundreds of players in A, AA and AAA ball, it's a monumental feat to land on a major league roster.

It is probably true that Curtis Granderson can be said to be the best athlete to ever play for UIC. I was just writing that without knowing the complete history of UIC sports. I know that we also have a soccer player who has played in the MLS and one who is playing overseas also. And this past school year, the softball team had another All American Cameron Astizianarian (I completely butchered her last name).
