With the nice weather yesterday, I figured it would be a good day to head out to see at least a little of the double header . The setting was perfect and the field looked great. But that is where all the good stuff ended. UIC ended up losing the first game by 20-0 I think, but I only lasted for six innings. When I finally took off, the score was 14-0 and we only had one hit. It seemed like WSU could just hit at will. They pretty much made it look effortless. One of the good things that did come out of my day was that I won a 8 piece order of hot wings from Wow. Between innings, there's a contest, "Running of the Flags". Three guys go out behind the outfield wall with those huge flags- one is a "U", an "I", and the other is a "C". Before it starts some staff, I think they are a part of the Fury, come around and you get to pick a paper letter. If your letter wins, you get a prize. So, that was kind of nice.
Speaking of the Fury, There were around 4 members in attendance. Most of the people in the stands were parents of the players. There was even a nice size group of family members for the Wright State players. Given that this was a Sunday and the weather was so nice, I was expecting a lot more students to wander over. But I'm sure some of that was people wanting to take advantage of the weather to do other things.
One other thing I wanted to say is that UIC has some really nice grounds now. I saw the baseball field and the soccer field during the winter when you can't really get an idea of how good it actually looks. And I didn't know that the softball field is right behind those as well. I really wish that UIC would have gotten all these upgrades while I was there.
Well, hopefully the next game I get to, the real UIC baseball team will show up. They are a lot better than what they showed Sunday.
