What an upset!! Wright State was going to be the team to give UIC the most trouble in the regular season and the HL tournament. We did nip them by a half game in the regular season and now they are eliminated from the tournament by losing 2 games by scores of 20-3 and 13-4!! Who da thunk it?

I certainly wasn't expecting that. UWM seems like the team to beat right now. We are losing 2-0 in the third right now and Miramontes does not seem to have his best stuff. We need to score some runs! Let's go Flames!

Miramontes can't get through an inning without giving up a run. We have had runners in scoring position every inning and can't score. Doesn't look good for the Flames tonight.

These kids never quit! They come back from 5 down and shut the door on Milwaukee and win the game. Nothing was going right for the team in the beginning of the game until I believe the sixth inning and then it all clicked. This team hustles, they get down to business and it seems that they just forget if they have a bad inning. It is hard not to like a group of kids like that.
This team is one win away from another regional appearance. I know there are several big time programs who would not want to see UIC as the 4 seed in their bracket. Long Beach State certainly wouldn't like it, neither would Vandy...amongst others.
Hopefully these guys can wrap it up this afternoon.
Good luck Flames!

Good luck to the Flames in today's "winner take all--loser go home" game against Milwaukee in the Championship Game of the HL Tournament. Unfortunately with an RPI of 157 and a conference ranking of 27 (out of 31), an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament won't happen if we lose.

By the way, the game is being televised on the HL Network on the internet and UIC has jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning. Go Flames!!!

15-1 in the 8th inning...it's pretty much over.
i'm watching the HL feed and wondering why we can't get this kind of quality for basketball??? nice camera angles, the score is shown up top, individual stats, replay.....

Congrats on your tourney victory and I hope some of you can make the trek to College Station next weekend.
I was looking through your media guide and stats page and am curious about what your usual weekend rotation looks like.
Good luck next weekend!

Looks like we get Texas A&M in game 1 of our regional. Also in our regional are Dallas Baptist and Houston.
After a quick peek at A&M's message board, it's clear that they have 0 respect for us. And, I guess it's not unexpected. We're not that good this year. We lost a ton from last year including our entire core pitching staff (two starters to the MLB draft and the disapperance of Cales) and have just one senior this year. We were predicted to fall in the HL for the 1st time in years, and we somehow proved them all wrong.
It's tough to respect a fanbase such as Texas A&M's when a good number don't even know who they're playing in game 1. I seem to remember Long Beach State acting the same way last year. We're certainly not ICU, as can be found all over A&M's board. And, in one post, an Aggie fan gave the following odds of winning for each team in the regional...
Ags- 80% Houston- 10% DBU- 9% Who?- 1%
I think you know where we fit in that category. Is it really that tough to do more than 30 seconds of searching to find the actual name of your opponent? Anyway, even though our RPI is considerably worse than every other team in our regional, and even though we have just 1 regional win in school history, UIC has come through with occasional upsets. Like they always say, that's why they play the game.
AgBill, to answer your question, I have no idea who UIC is going to throw on Friday. My first guess would be Derrick Miramontes, but he has struggled a little bit as of late. Peter Ifft has really come on late in the year, but he pitched our last game, so I'm guessing he's out. Mike Kool has been solid so maybe he'll be the guy...who knows. Kohlstaedt has really fallen so I don't see him as the one. So, if I were a betting man, it would be Miramontes.

Chill out Big D . . . Aggie fans are famous for not only being smartasses but also being very respectful of the other team and their fans. Aggies will rag on your team big time during the game, then afterwards buy you a beer (win or lose). I am pretty sure ICU is just a play on the letters. The way our team has played the last couple of weeks, many Aggie fans (myself included) won't be too surprised by anything that might happen agains UIC. The A&M team has played some very very good baseball this year . . . but they have also played some very very bad baseball this year. If you can make it to College Station, do it - Olson Field is just a GREAT place to watch baseball. Aggie students are very 'creative' in their heckling . . . but I have never heard anything personally that could be offensive.

Hey guys,
I've been out of town and missed the championship game against Milwaukee. Glad to see that UIC won when they needed to, kind of like what they have been doing all year. This team is a real nice group on freshmen and sophomores who have done an excellent job of carrying on the winning tradition. I have to be honest and say that I did not expect us to win the HL again this year. I thought that we simply lost too much and that our youth would hinder us this year. Coach Dee has proved me wrong and showed why he is such an excellent coach and recruiter.
Now, onto the tournament. I'm not offended at all if the Texas A&M fans don't know who we are. To be honest, this is only our fourth time in a regional and they all happened in the last six years. A&M has been in who knows how many and they play in the Big 12. The only way to get respect from these major programs is to play well when you face them...and win. Everyone associated with the Long Beach State program knows who we are...same thing for Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. I could continue on with the list but it really doesn't matter, you get the point.
I honestly think the team to beat in our regional is Dallas Baptist. They can bring arm after arm out, all throwing 90 plus. They played an outstanding schedule, sweeping Rice as well. I think we will have to wait until next year to make some noise in a regional. This will be the first taste of a regional for many of our guys. But hey, they have been proving me wrong all year long and I hope that continues. I'm just very proud of our guys.
Good luck Flames! Also good luck to Texas A&M, Dallas Baptist and Houston when they are not playing the Flames.

Watching the game on the A&M network. 1-1 in the 4th inning. How about the quality of the camera work AND the announcers. I swear the play-by-play guy reminds me of Skip Caray of the Atlanta Braves telecasts. What a refreshingly huge upgrade from the goobers that announced the Horizon League games.

Congrats to UIC for bouncing back from a tough game yesterday and winning their 2nd regional game ever. We eliminated Dallas Baptist today after beating them 9-5. This year was a very big success regardless of what happens from here on out! Great job Coach Dee and team! btw, here are some photos taken from the UIC/TAMU game...very nice pics... texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=1165455&forum_id=8
