Congrats to the Baseball team for their first win of year, 3-2 @ Vanderbilt. Vandy must be our lucky charm this year.

Vanderbilt was 6-3 coming into this game and was currently on a 5 game winning streak. Granted, they have been playing Vermont and Lipscomb. However, they also had some games against Cal and Stanford. Either way, good win.
Being a northern team, we are at somewhat of a disadvantage. It's a lot easier to practice pitching indoors than hitting. Derrick Miramontes has been lights out and had another good outing today, but I believe the hitting will come around.

The good thing is that we've been in half of our games against great comeptition, which is nice. We've lost 3 games by a combined total of 5 runs. I think we'll come around eventually. Maybe we can go on a little winning streak now that we got that first one down.

That was nice to get the first win under our belts. Worthington has been an absolute stud this year as a starter. Miramontes has been pitching in relief this season. I'm not sure if he had an injury and are building up his pitch count or if he is the new closer. Regardless, Worthington has turned into our ace. He thre 8 innings of 1 run ball at Texas and 7.2 against Vandy.
We are still waiting for the first game where the offense breaks out. Granted, UIC has faced some top notch pitching in the first 7 games. I have a feeling that the breakout game for the offense is going to come this weekend. Hopefully I'm right.
Kovacevich is pitching tonight and has also done a nice job in his first two starts. We just need to give him a little support with some runs so that he is able to relax and start dealing.
Go Flames!!

I'm a little disappointed that Michael Heesch has not seen more playing time. He had some relief innings the other day but has not seen any real playing time. He was the recruit that came to UIC after backing out going to Nebraska.
