Both Milwaukee and Wright State split their respective crucial doubleheaders on Saturday. Therefore, the "magic number" for UIC to clinch our 9th consecutive 1st place HL finish is down to 1. A win in one of our remainig 5 games or a loss by Milwaukee and Wright State will do it.

We won the first game of the DH vs Cleveland State today. According to my calculations, we should have clinched the league title. The worst we can do is 16-9 in the conference. If Wright State and UWM win out, the best they can is 16-10 and 14-9, respectively. But yet the story on UICFlames.com made no mention of the fact that we clinched our 9th consecutive HL title. Either I'm wrong or our site is piss-poor in missing this huge achievement.

I swear someone in the athletic dept is reading this board. The story this morning seemed to particularly address your previous post circle.... www.uicflames.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/051109aaa.htmlThough, they say it's the 8th straight title...not the 9th. Can't say I know who's right. What I do know is that if it weren't for men's basketball dragging UIC athletics down, we may have won more McCafferty trophies over the years. Congrats to UIC baseball for it's continued dominance.

Now let's continue that into the HL Tournament and reach another NCAA Tournament!

Though, they say it's the 8th straight title...not the 9th. My mistake. It's the 8th consecutive and 9th overall.

Congrats again to UIC for winning the HL, but we landed just a single pitcher on the HL 1st team...not a single position player.
It's a credit to the coaching staff for winning with no standouts this year. It seems like a lot of players expected to produce had very disappointing years. Let's hope that next year, some of these players come back to form. Otherwise, we may see our HL regular season streak come to an end.

To think we had two players who were on the Pre-Season player of the year watch list and neither of them made all league in any level. We had some challenges and still came back to win the Horizon League. That says a lot to our coaching staff for sure.
