uicflames.com is reporting that UIC is considering adding women's soccer and women's bowling, which I think is great! This begs the question though...is UIC thinking about adding another men's sport in the near future?....Title IX! www.uicflames.com/genrel/100109aaa.html

Why is that great? Just more expense going into non-revenue sports, money that could be well-spent on Men's Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer. In these harsh economic times, many D1 programs are actually cutting some of their minor sports to save money. But, as usual, UIC has things bass ackwards.

Women's soccer...................maybe Women's bowling.........kimmee a break.......... How about bringing back men's hockey? Dropped for the infusion of cash into the , since, highly successful and lucrative men's basketball program....hmmmmmmmmmmm? Nope, that would take work on the athletic administration's part, of which they failed on in the first place. Had a nice ice arena (Pav), nice on campus practice arena, both of which could/should have generated additional revenues by being leased for outside use as well, and great hockey conference. Just poor marketing..............where've I heard that before? Maybe bring in women's hockey, as well, for the ladies................ tit for tat.......sorry for the pun..... But bowling for women? Please say it ain't so............

I think Valpo added men's/women's golf and women's bowling before the beginning of the 08-09 year, and I highly doubt they're much better off financially than we are. Fielding a bowling team can't cost that much in the grand scheme of things, can it? We already have the lanes. And I can't imagine they'd all be on full-ride scholarships. Women's soccer may have some scholarship players and it would help us in the McCafferty race because most in the HL have women's soccer already. Again, I don't think this would be too expensive....but I don't know. I do know that putting more money into men's basketball hasn't done a damn thing. They could hire a bum off the streets for 10% of what JC makes and he'd get the same results. So, we can move some extra money elsewhere. But again, I think this could open the door for another men's team down the road. Hockey coming back? Men's golf? Lacrosse? Football?

If there is going to be another men's sport added, I would bet it's going to be Volleyball. Fact is this: Men's Volleyball and Women's soccer clubs have worked hard marketing themselves and creating teams. Hockey DID do that up until a couple of years ago. I have not heard a peep from the UIC Hockey Club Team in a while. Also, is Rugby a D1 sport? Our club teams are heavily active on campus.
