Probably nothing more than a rumor about a rumor, but this is what I heard on Ch 5 sports yesterday. Just curious if anyone has heard any rumors about the rumor about the rumor.

It won't happen. Trust me. Nothing to gain for Jimmy to go back there.

I don't see NMSU being a better job than UIC.
First, Jimmy would be taking on a huge rebuilding project with NMSU having only won 4 games this year. If Jimmy has a hard time bringing good recruits to Chicago, he'd have a blast trying to bring good recruits to a losing program in New Mexico....and is NMSU really that much bigger of a name than UIC? I don't think so.
Third, would the increase in pay, if there were one, be worth the rebuilding and relocation at such a late age? I honestly think he'll be at UIC for a while unless a school from a major conference comes knockin....

It was on Ch. 2, also, but they mentioned he's signed through 2008 or so.

Jimmy is not going anywhere, I dont think the contract is the real sticking point because most college coaches jump around. Next coach to leave the horizon for a bigger school will be Pearl. I think Jimmy is here to stay for a long time.

Jimmy gets paid pretty well.. I dont see another other program paying him more. Totally agreed. Beyond anything else, unless a major wanted him, no one else at UIC's peer level or lower would pay him near what he makes now. He appears pretty comfortable at UIC and I think he's passed his time to be called up to a major conference. There's too many good YOUNG coaches out there. I, for one, will be happy to have him for a long long time.

Jimmy has a lot of support here. You are right, I could see him going to a major or power conference if asked, but not another mid major or a small conference.

Yea , doesn't he make around 300k or so? Not too bad for a midmajor. Maybe I should get into coaching. Anyone want to be an assistant? Lol.

We couldn't be that lucky. It's seven years and he's barely five hundred. If this was ND or downstate would he still be coaching? Name one kid who developed under Jimmy. Why do the athletes have trouble in meeting standards in selecting coursework to stay on pace to graduate?

Why do the athletes have trouble in meeting standards in selecting coursework to stay on pace to graduate? Umm, Cedrick Banks? I can name plenty more...and what are you talking about with selecting coursework? Because one player, Bailey, didn't? I don't thin that's indicative of anything more than Martell Bailey.

Comparing the expectations at UIC to that of Notre Dame is quite a stretch. BTW, ND hoops is a whole different story. Mike Brey has underachieved there for the last 4 years. He failed to develop the one of the highest rated recruits they've ever had in Chris Thomas. Thomas is essentially the same player he was when he walked on campus as a freshman. They have a solid post player in Torin Francis and they don't win.
If the expectations put on the head coach of ND football were placed on society as a whole, the unemplyment rate in the U.S. would be 98%.
